A rally in support of President Donald Trump in downtown Ithaca descended into chaos on Friday afternoon, as multiple fights broke out between Trump supporters and counter-protesters who assembled to rebuke the rally.
No arrests appear to have been made during or after the event, despite a litany of physical altercations involving people from both sides. At least two people were injured during the several scuffles that broke out in the 90 minutes the two sides squared off.
The scene was tense from the beginning. A small group of Trump supporters gathered outside the Tompkins County Republicans office starting at 4 p.m., primarily led by Rocco and Max Lucente, who also helped organize the Trump march that took place earlier in October. From the start, they were met with a larger group of counterprotesters, organized by the local Democratic Socialists of America but attracting people of all stripes looking to oppose Trump, who were stationed directly across Meadow Streetreminiscent of the standoff that took place outside of City Hall during the aforementioned Trump event in Ithaca.

Promptly thereafter, counterprotesters began to move across the street, standing next to or in front of Trump supporters. The Trump ralliers began to fracture, some moving down the block, others staying in front of the building and exchanging words with counter-protesters. By 4:40 p.m., several of the ralliers had been backed into a corner by a group of counterprotesters who had ventured across the street, easily outnumbering the Trump supporters as both sides screamed at each other.

Haven't seen it posted lately...used to be all the time! The big four:
There were several, but only one wheeled me around and decked me. It was a real eye-opening introduction to the real world.
Yes it does.
Yup—thanks.
I love visiting Ithica—but I understand it is Communist occupied territory and I keep a low profile.
I don’t really see that in lowbridge’s post, coaster123.
When I read the article, it was pretty clear who was instigating trouble (the Leftists) but they did make it sound like both sides were equally at fault (and I don’t think they were from interpreting it.)
Just my opinion.
I felt the same as lowbridge did, and as I read it, it sounded like the Leftists were hounding, confronting, and most likely provoking the Trump supporters, who from experience I know were likely being peaceful.
Headline should read, “Trump Rally Attacked by Left-Wing Mob”
Until today I didn’t realize Ithica was that far gone. I figured it would be liberal because it is New York.
I live only about thirty miles from Cambridge, and I won’t even go in there now.
Sorry, Newbie. You’re the idiot.
The original poster commented that the article makes each side equal in responsibility. The poster alluded to that inequity/ And you alleged the original poster had furthered the inequity.
Is English your first or fourth language? I would posit, given your failure to master English, it is not your first.
I would love for you to try to make this a referendum on my understanding of the language, FRiend.
I made the reference, because you used to see it posted all the time...it just seemed to stop, though.
Maybe when Obama took office, he became the Opiate of the Leftist Masses!
The left is evil. There are not two sides to the story.
“I would love for you to..”
Love?
The headline doesn’t reflect that, IMO.
The headline makes it sound like the Trump Rally was violent...when in actuality, knowing conservatives, it was peaceful and I am willing to bet it was non-confrontational.
Until the Leftists arrived. When you read the article, it sounds like they were trying to intimidate the Trump supporters, getting in their face, forcing them to move, etc.
I despise Leftists. Just despise them.
I think we agree there, the original poster’s comment observed that the newspaper made it sound like the Trump Rally was inherently violent. When you read it, it is clear (at least to me) who the aggressors were, but the scummy paper was deliberately trying to make it sound like both camps were spoiling for a fight.
Of course, I know from personal experience that conservatives aren’t spoiling for a fight when they demonstrate, but to Leftists and their media allies, simply holding up a sign saying “Vote Republican” is a cassius belli.
I thought you were being a bit harsh, but the disagreement on this thread has all the hallmarks of a communication issue...:)

... when 150 protestors arrived at their rally, ripping their signs from their hands and burning them, yelling in their faces and eventually forcing them back into their headquarters for safety.
Republican committee member James Crawford called 911 after he says the ralliers endured verbal abuse, physical intimidation, threats and actual violence and when he felt the ralliers were in danger. Police closed the highway. The building where the republicans rent space was spray painted with Trump Dies, Trump Got Covid, and Jesus Hates Cops. One woman who supports the president had her shoulder dislocated.

The whole state is NOT Liberal/leftist
Only certain spots like Ithaca and NYC and a couple western NY cities like Buffalo and Rochester
The rest of the state is bright red
It is just that the populated area of NYC outvotes the rest of the state so it is always known as this “blue state”
However this year a ton of New Yorkers are pissed at Cuomo and DeBozo so they might either vote Trump or not vote at all. If Trump makes gains in NYC, he could win the state because the rural and suburban areas he already owns
That is why internal Trump poll numbers show NY state as a possible swing state.
I have a great Cambridge story for you.
I had a good friend who was born and raised there. (This is back in the late 1960s.)
Imagine the scene—my friend has long hair, smokes marijuana now and then, has a world class reggae music collection, and lives in a tiny run-down apartment.
So far everything is normal.
But—he has a very unusual hobby. For several years he has collected every single white extremist brochure, magazine, leaflet, whatever, available by mailorder. We are talking Klan, Nazis, and dozens of other groups nobody has ever heard of outside of their own encampments in the woods.
These documents are floor to ceiling for most of one whole room.
It is not that he believes the stuff, but he is totally fascinated, one could say addicted by it.
It is his secret, his “hidden hobby”, and only his very best friends get to find out about it.
Life is sometimes not what it appears to be (and Cambridge has _all kinds_ of strange people).
Yes, “love”. You are trying to beat another FReeper over the head with a flawed understanding of the English language. Care to play, or are you chicken, FRiend?
