Who knew that living in 2020 California would be reminiscent of my childhood?
Here we are, with all the modern conveniences of 2020 in a state that is considered technically first-class in this country, if not the world, and I find myself scouring my memory for some of the means we used to survive bad weather when I was a child growing up in the woods of New Jersey.
It really is mind-boggling!
As I write this, our power company, PG&E Pacific Gas and Electric which, we are told, is the nation's largest utility company, is about to turn off our power. And it's all because of the weather forecast.
According to the weather guy, we're in for several, days of temps in the 90s and 100s and hot winds of 55 mph or more, with gusts up to 70 mph and higher.
Hot temperatures and low humidity in Northern California isn't unusual, nor are the winds. Here, they're called Diablo Winds in Southern California, they're are called the Santa Ana Winds. They are HOT and fierce I've experienced them all, and they are no fun.

The old joke about what did (insert here) use to light their homes before candles was never supposed to be a policy goal.
They will just adore the rolling blackouts that last for days and not being able to charge their car. ... and there’s Generac Power Systems - prices starting at $2,000!
***Because basically most people are too lazy to do much research any more and remain ignorant.***
So true, most just want to be spoon fed their information. They trust what they are told even if it contradicts what they see and know in real life.
So, how come we didn’t need N95s when the pig flu showed up? :-) Guess we weren’t force fed that requirement at the time.
Hmmm. I wonder exactly how renewables is spelled out. Coal is renewable. It just takes a freaking long time.
LOL! Some “x-spurts” say petroleum is as well. My question is just how many frigging dinosaurs were there to have supplied this much petro for so many years? And still being pumped like crazy.
The liberals think you can resist the construction of power production, defund the military and police, confiscate firearms, tax businesses into oblivion, eliminate fossil fuels and regulate agriculture to protect imaginary environmental interests, but still have their suvs, cheap food, personal security, cell phones and cheap electricity. They dont live in the real world.
Don’t expect to put a lot of miles on the all-electric cars the Democrats expect you to have to buy.
Their thinking only goes this far:
Fossil fuel bad, dirty, evil, non renewable
Green good, clean, economical, sustainable
People have been spoon fed lies in this forever.
Plenty of information out there about the so-called “renewable energy”. What a joke! Even some of the most conservative states are delving into the use of it. Makes no sense at all, because you still must have conventional power plants if you are at all interested in reliable electric power. Only stands to reason if you try to use both it must cost more. That’s only part of it, though. People, and especially those with influence over the “renewable” power projects need to know what they are committing everyone to. If you run both conventional sources & the “renewables” one or the other must at least partially shut down periodically & this is not efficient nor does it save any money. Almost all of our electricity must be supplied as continuous frequency alternating current. Read up on this & then decide if you want it & vote accordingly for those who determine/control of our energy output.
Another reason not to go to California. Kindly do not bring that thinking here.
California treats electric utility investors badly, but wants to become far more reliant on electricity.
Idiotic ideas from the mentally ill
Exactly
The winds are strong enough that small windmills could work well.
Surely California engineers could magnetically couple an air conditioner compressor to a windmill shaft.
In the UK, “low windmill output” has been a problem for the National Grid.
Another thing I guess I should have mentioned about “renewable” energy is that no matter who controls power transmission, you will still have power poles & wires, so the electricity blackouts would be just as common, until somebody gets their mind straightened out & realizes that the forests need to be controlled much better so as to alleviate the need for power blackouts.
In Germany and the USA, there is “denken” and “glauben”.
