In the 21st century, hallmark American and international institutions have lost much of their prestige and respect.
Politics and biases explain the lack of public confidence in organizations and institutions such as the World Health Organization, the Commission on Presidential Debates, the Nobel Peace Prize, the Pulitzer Prizes and the Academy Awards.
The overseers entrusted with preserving these institutions all caved to short-term political pressures. As a result, they have mostly destroyed what they inherited.
The World Health Organization's director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is the first person without a medical degree to hold that position. Why? No one really knows.
In the critical first days of the rapidly spreading COVID-19 pandemic, almost every statement issued by Tedros and the WHO about the origins, transmission, prevention and treatment of the virus was inaccurate. Worse, the announcements predictably reflected the propaganda of the Chinese government.
The bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates was formed in 1987 for two purposes: to ensure that during every presidential campaign, candidates would agree to debate; and to ensure that the debates would be impartial and not favor either major party.
Unfortunately, in 2020, the commission so far has a checkered record on both counts.
Conservatives have argued that the moderators of the first presidential debate and the vice presidential debate -- Chris Wallace of Fox News and Susan Page of USA Today -- were systematically asymmetrical in their questioning.

VDH bump.
At this point, the virtue-signaling is at the hysteria level. Like the Salem witchcraft trials, you’d best point the finger at someone (anyone) before someone points the finger at YOU.
In the 1960s they said "The personal is the political".
Later, the message became "Everything is political".
When everything is political, everything is ideological, which means everything is ruined.
We need a whole lot less politics, less government, less control. People need to just live their lives. But the control freaks don't want that.
Abolish Commission on Presidential Debates.
Oliver Cromwell - You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!
People rave here about Hansen but the guy is often just plain stupid regardless of his classical education. So this guy Tedrow from Ethiopia is the first WHO Director General to not be a medical doctor and noone knows why? I mean, really? It’s because he is the first BLACK to be put in that position. He was put there by affirmative action. Did Hansen see this but he couldn’t bring himself to say it? Or is he just stupid. Either way, he’s no great intellect, it seems to me.
The lesson in all these debacles is that anywhere ideology trumps science, public service, history, art and entertainment, ruin surely follows.
I was really glad to see Trump stop funding the WHO.
Ping; worthwhile.
Thanks! VDH is always good.
Im afraid the US military may be a casualty. All the gender and diversity crap, women in combat arms, etc. has been going on for quite some time, and is absolutely creating adverse results. A young relative in the Marines has some stories from about 6-8 years ago that are insane and absurd.

Cultural Marxists (our progressives, leftists, D’rats) have been working hard to tear down our stabilizing cultural establishments tor many decades — Christianity, marriage, family, heterosexuality, gender roles, morality, childhood innocence, critical thinking, common meanings, the virtues.
TV really accelerated their progress, then the Internet put it on steroids
Chris Wallace was, indeed, a less-than-impartial moderator.
However, when one candidate actually already is president, and the other one has not been president, a certain degree of asymmetry in the questioning is to be expected.
Any question relating, e.g., to current events (like the Corona virus) will have to be phrased differently, depending upon whether it is directed to the one candidate or the other.
"Mr. Current President: You failed to prevent the Corona Crisis..."
"Mr. Wannabe-President: What would you have done instead?"
Such question should therefore be kept to a minimum - but they are not entirely avoidable.

Well, don't keep us on tenter-hooks!

For many decades being nominated for the Nobel prize had more prestige than actually receiving it/
