The online version of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary changed the definition of sexual preference on the same day that senators scolded Judge Amy Coney Barrett for her use of the word during day two of her confirmation hearings.
When questioned by Democratic senators on the judiciary committee on Obergefell v. Hodges, which decreed a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, Sens. Mazie Hirono and Cory Booker reprimanded Barrett for using the term sexual preference, claiming that is was outdated and offensive.

Ask me my sexual preference and I will be offended. A back door to acceptance cascades my aggravation.
My sexual preference is to have it.
It’s a good sign for ACB if the party of imbecility has nothing better to pretend to care about.
Conceive of the inverse of infinity; that’s how much Hirono’s “preference” terminology gotcha matters to anyone including her.
So Webster is twirling in his grave.
Well, “orientation” means to face toward the orient/Asia. Soooo..if oriental is an offensive term now would that, by extension, make sexual “orientation” offensive?
I used to think 1984 was fiction.
They dont realize it, but they just nullified the definition of preference.
Wikipedia's Hunter Biden page currently dismisses anything negative about him as "right-wing conspiracy theories". That actually works to discredit Wikipedia, IMO.
So, what if you prefer... I mean, are sexually oriented toward children? Is that an orientation or a preference?
Force them to follow the illogic of their logic to its damning conclusion.
I think so too.
I have a preference. Doesn’t everyone?
These people are so anal, figuratively and evidently
literally.
1984 is alive, well and working at Merriam-Webster
My Webster’s New Pocket Dictionary ©2000 goes from “sexual intercourse” to “sexy”, omitting “sexual preference”.
On this vein, I guess it might as well be mentioned that Sen. Hirono is also outdated & quite offensive ....to normal folks anyway.
