The makers of Eskimo Pie ice cream have announced the new name for their brand, losing a 100-year-old trademark which is now considered racially insensitive.
From 2021 Eskimo Pie will be known as Edy's Pie - a tribute to one of their founders, Joseph Edy.
In 1928 Edy and William Dreyer decided to join forces to manufacture ice cream, beginning a company which owns Eskimo Pie and is now known as Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, in turn owned by Nestle.

We must do away with French fries, Bailey’s Irish Cream, English Leather, Polish and Italian sausage, Spanish Fly, and anything else with a country identifier.
What is “derogatory” about the name “Eskimo”?
Many American corporations are cowardly slime.
Figures the biggest lib here knows it all ^
Oh look name calling. But the saddest kind. Like it’s somehow bad to actually know what a people call themselves. What kind of pathetic person thinks knowing this is bad?
Its not inuitive to call them that
“Why do people have such a need to keep to old language? And why shouldnt the Inuit be called what they want to be called?”
It’s ice cream.
It’s a name of an ice cream product.
Wow that’s pathetic.
The mighty Quinn is not pleased.
It’s a product with a name of a people they don’t like. And a picture of one in the logo. Really, what so horrible about being NICE?
Great, just in time for Columbus Day
You and your ilk can stop maligning him
The Inuit? I knew it!
When France refused U.S. overflight in French airspace in 2003 during the Iraq war, the Senate dining room changed “french fries” on the menu to “freedom fries”.
Food Lion changed their French Vanilla ice cream to Freedom Vanilla with a patriotic box.
Where I was deployed it was Freedom Fries all the way. Oh, and our usual dessert was Klondike Bars.
;^)
One problem with this new name is its pronunciation. Is it pronounced “Eydie” or “Eddie”?
Made with real Inuits?
Number of actual Eskimos who complained about the name - probably somewhere between hardly any and none at all. Number of white liberals who complained about the name - probably thousands.
I haven’t maligned him. I could give a crap one way or the other on that. I have always found the day silly, since he didn’t discover America and heck didn’t actually even land in America proper. But I don’t care about the whole slavery and whining thing. By and large I’m against whining. Problem here is YOU’RE the one whining. Their name is Inuit, that’s what they want to be called, we call you by your preferred name, stop whining about them being shown the same basic courtesy.
why is the word Eskimo derogatory?
This is from more tha 60 years ago.
What year do you live in?
Gee most Indians seemed to be OK with Redskins
and the honorific logo given the fact they lathered
themselves with red ochre
The playful Chief Wahoo was nice considering
the brutalities inflicted by real Indian tribes on
everyone
Nathan Phillips or dishonest injuns like Warren
and Churchill must have convinced everyone
You’re the one living in the past buddy. 60 years ago a lot of people were just willing to eat crap cause they didn’t have the power. So we could call people Eskimos, or Redskins, or Honey, or Boy, and too bad if they didn’t like it. Well it’s the 21st century and large quantities of these people are tired of eating crap. And they’ve made requests, politely, the same as you would correct someone calling you by a name that isn’t yours. Now you can either be a nice person, and call them what they want, or an ass.
