The hired security guard accused of shooting a protester dead during a Denver rally on Saturday was identified by police as Matthew Robert Dolloff.
Dolloff, 30, is being held in connection to a first-degree murder investigation in the shooting, the Denver Police Department announced on Sunday. Family members said the victim was Lee Keltner, a military veteran.
Officials said Dolloff has not yet been charged. He is being questioned about the shooting, which was captured on camera. The shooting happened at a pro-President Donald Trump rally that was disrupted by people with Black Lives Matter and Antifa, who had planned a counter-demonstration.
According to jail records, Dolloff was booked on Saturday night on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Dolloff was hired by NBC News affiliate 9NEWS to provide security during the demonstrations. He was hired via Pinkerton, a company that offers private security services.
It has been the practice of 9NEWS for a number of months to contract private security to accompany staff at protests, said 9NEWS in its report.
Pinkerton and the NBC affiliate didnt respond to requests for comment.
Police said that Dolloff is a private security guard who had no affiliation with Antifa. There were unconfirmed allegations on social media that he was part of the anarcho-communist group.
On Sunday morning, Dolloff appeared briefly at a virtual court hearing. He uttered few statements, according to Denverite, a local news website. Dolloff is being held without bond.
Social media accounts that appear to be connected to Dolloff show that he participated in Occupy protests in Denver and supported the Black Lives Matter movement. Those accounts frequently shared posts from left-wing media outlets like The Young Turks and criticized Trumpwho he called a fascistand also indicated support for self-described socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a former Democratic presidential candidate.
The shooting took place on Saturday around 3:30 p.m. near the Denver Art Museum and the Denver Public Library, police official Joe Montoya told reporters. A verbal altercation took place just before the shooting, he said.
Witnesses said the shooting victim was part of the conservative Patriot Rally group.
Photographs that captured the incident showed a man deploying pepper spray or a similar chemical as the suspect pointed a gun at him. Moments later, the man was on the ground, shot, while police in riot gear ran over and arrested the shooter.
One video showing the minute before the shooting showed a man wearing a Black Guns Matter t-shirt shouting at a group of men who appeared to be with the conservative group, including the man who was eventually shot. The man with the Black Guns Matter shirt is enraged, shouting at the group. He tells one to mace him. The shooting victim moves out of the view of the camera. Moments later, a gunshot is heard.
The Denver Sheriff Department directed inquiries to the police, which didnt return requests for more information on Sunday.
After the shooting on Saturday, Denver police released a statement saying that it respects the right to peacefully assemble. Those who participate in protests, demonstrations, marches, or other gatherings, as protected by the First Amendment, are reminded to do so in a lawful manner. Individuals who choose to act outside of local, state and federal law, will be subject to citation or arrest.
You know, and I do to, is because a lot of those people are either mentally ill or borderline mentally ill.
And I don’t say that lightly. To accept these contradictory views, they have to deceive themselves as to right and wrong, lawful and unlawful, and rationalize nearly everything.
Socialism is a disaster. Everywhere. All through time. A disaster. You can look it up. But still, they cling to “it will work this time” and it just won’t, because it is like a political perpetual motion machine.
It creates such a cognitive dissonance in them that they have these videos of people-adults-screaming, crying, and having infantile temper tantrums. It pushes a lot of them over the edge.
They don’t have God. They don’t have history. They don’t have family (the Marxist in them wants to destroy family) They don’t have facts. So they lay on their backs, kick their heels, pound their fists, and...
Kill people.
When was the last time you saw a conservative act as they do? Sure we get mad, we get smoking mad, but it doesn’t change us into what they become when THEY are enraged.
It is who they are. They are, as a group, completely untethered. There are a huge number of them who are simply a murderous rage just waiting to happen.
And some communal shower oriented injections coming his way too
I'm no rocket scientist, but if I was managing a business (news station) and employing security for my street reporters, I'd check out the person's background to avoid any issues of liability, especially seeing as he's armed.
Unless....naw. .... That's just tin foil on head conspiracy thinking.......
Seems to be very little interest in this on Free Republic today.
Not sure why.

Its Sunday.
Mr. Black Guns Matter seems to get around and has a penchant for starting trouble. Here he is at a Bernie rally, same shirt, in a fight.

Pinkerton and communist seems to trigger Haymarket from the past.
The worst of the worst. There are zero journalists at that station.
Denver police union leader confirms stand-down order given by Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen for Michelle Malkins pro-cops Back the Blue event at Civic Center Park..
In addition to BLM and Antifa, violent thugs / counter-demonstrators with groups identified as the Party for Socialism and Liberation and the Afro-Liberation Front were also on hand, KMGH-TV reported.

I was pondering that, and figured it had to be that. Simple explanation indeed.
I don’t think I’d consider being sprayed with mace an existential threat requiring me to kill the sprayer.
If only the fbi could get access to their encrypted messaging apps I'm sure a nationwide, if not international conspiracy would appear.
Who would hire him to do anything but mop floors? Security companies are not picky about whom they hire. They will even hire people with criminal records.
Victim was pro-police vet and shot while son looked on:

Police Chief raced to protect the suspect from being called a member of Antifa./s
Actually, they say Antifa is hard to pin down by law enforcement because it has no president, lieutenants and card carrying members. Same as the old Occupy this guy was part of.
You appear to be unfamiliar with the majority of modern ‘security’ - go to any surviving mall in your area and look at the mall security personnel. Those are ‘mall cops.’ They do not look like ex-cops or ex-soldiers.
Sadly, the reason is football. We have too many football addicts here.

Its noteworthy that Orange Vest Photographer (HELEN H. RICHARDSON, Denver Post) is allowed such close access to BLM instigator because Antifa/BLM throw up their umbrellas & harass actual journalists who are not ideological embeds on their side.
Look at this. Hes [sic] practically a publicist for BLM instigator. /4
Yes...I am one of those in spirit, but the thing is...my distress and disgust over it has removed my enthusiasm, and so...I haven’t been watching.
This has been difficult for me. I have been an avid pro football fan...and I mean avid...for over 50 years.
I loved it. Loved it. Loved the intensity, the physical contact, the strategy, the characters, the joy of success and the bitterness of defeat.
When I was at sea, long before the days of the Internet, on Sunday evenings, I would prowl around the radio shack on the ship, waiting for door to open and had a radioman tape a results printout on the bulkhead next to the door.
When in port, I would sit on the darkened flight deck, running up and down the dial of a small transistor radio, knowing if I came across a football game, I would immediately recognize the voice and cadence of a pro football announcer...though I never did, it didn’t stop me from trying.
I have loved it all. I had a huge group of people I socialized with, centered on pro football. We have traveled to games many times. Had Christmas parties. Been to weddings, and in the past few years...funerals.
We have cheered, yelled, jumped around like children, grinned, high fived, linked arms and danced jigs, and slumped in silent dejection...all together...all memorable.
But all of it...all of it provided us with an excuse to see each other as we enter a time of our lives where people begin to pull apart and spend more time outside the group, a natural thing.
And I loved it. And I miss it.
But I love my country far more, and the rage I felt watching these entitled pricks kneeling as the National Anthem was played, showing that disrepect in the presence of the flag my father and I served under and the one he was buried under, well...it made me want to spit.
So, I have watched five minutes or so here, glanced at an article about a game, but...I don’t follow it. Don’t know schedules, don’t know home games, no idea of away games, don’t know when the bye week is, standings, who is playing who, who is good and who is bad, who is rising and who is retiring or going to retire...none of it.
I hate and despise the Left. Anyone who reads me on this forum probably gets that. But of all the things they have done to this country over the years, the terrible, tyrannical, wrong, and anti-Constitutional things they have done...and they have done a LOT...the one I take more personally is their destruction of professional sports, and Football in particular. Even though they have done evil and heinous things to my country, the one that I feel that most keenly on an immediate and personal level, is their eradication of the love I felt for that game inside me.
May they all rot in Hell.
Obviously. There is a difference between a mall cop and one hired to carry a gun as his weapon
