Susan Collins struggles to change the subject from Brett Kavanaugh in Maine Senate race

The last time Sen. Susan Collins faced a Democratic challenger, she was considered practically invincible.

“No politician is ever bulletproof, but Collins is close,” University of Maine political scientist Mark Brewer told the Portland Press Herald in 2013.

At that point, Collins had already won three Senate races, expanding her share of the vote each time. She went on to defeat her rival, former ACLU leader Shenna Bellows, with almost 70% of the vote.

Six years later, everything has changed.

Collins is in the race of her life against Maine’s Democratic House speaker, Sara Gideon. With 3½ weeks to go, Collins is down in just about every poll as she seeks a fifth term from Maine voters.

A Collins loss in the state, where former Vice President Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump by nearly 15 points, could further imperil the GOP’s precarious hold on its majority in the Senate.

What happened?

To many Mainers, the answer has a lot to do with Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The Kavanaugh vote Even as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pushes to confirm Trump’s next pick for the Supreme Court, Judge Amy Coney Barrett, the fight over the last vacancy is continuing to shape the race for the Senate.

“Normally I am hesitant to ascribe too much to one particular vote that a legislator takes,” Brewer said in a recent interview. “I think in this particular instance, her vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh really has gotten the attention of a lot of people.”

Says a lot about the people of Maine that they can’t see through the Democratic sham on Kavanaugh. But not in a good way.

Actually "the people of Maine" have very little to say about it.

Maine RATs are the cutting edge of election fraud. Where after the two terms of conservative governor Paul LePage, they completely flipped to a RAT Gov, House and Senate.

Where the CD2 incumbent seat, who won by 2000 votes, went to the RAT thanks to legalized fraud...(rank choice voting)

But, do people know that?

There are so many things Trump has done people don’t have a clue about. Likewise, so many things Biden has said and done people don’t know a thing about.

Maine voters have to be pretty stupid to punish Collins for refusing to fall for that.

OR a bunch of liar-liar-pants-on-fire Femenazis.

The DNCMedia, of course, is going to claim things that aren't true, also.

It's even possible that most Mainiacs couldn't care less about Collins vote on Kavanaugh...

CNBC has been wrong about everything forever.

See all those bums living on the streets? Every one of them are former millionaires who followed CNBC’s financial advice.

Maine has slowly become the Oregon of the East.

Recycling my post from another thread. Not sure which is worse, your baseless claim or the fact that nobody on the thread challenged it. Trump lost OR by 10.6 points. Trump lost Maine by 2.7 points, about 20K votes. Link. Gary Johnson took 5.1% in ME, while Greenie Jill Stein took 1.9%. Trump won one of Maine's electoral votes last time, and I expect him to do the same in 2020. He's even got a legitimate shot at taking all of Maine's EVs, although I'm not sure how Maine's Ranked Choice voting system will affect his chances.

Sen. Susan Collins is definitely scrambling, but to say she's gone is just defeatist and unrealistic. The first two links below are from the past few days. The third is from last month.

“if you are from Maine, and you are not a lobster, then you’re a democrat.. that’s why.”

Wow. That’s pretty uniformed. Maine is, and has for some time been sharply divided between the southern coastal region, centering on Portland, and the interior and northland. The older, more rural residents are some of the most clear-headed Conservatives you will find anywhere in the country, and are salt of the earth people, in large numbers. The dreck that has accumulated in the southern coastal region is a combination of MA/NY influx and indigent/dependent illegal aliens, druggies, and Persons of the Welfare Dependent Persuasion.

I’m one of the few Conservative MA residents in the process of retiring there, with family up there, and an acute awareness of what’s going on there. Yes, there are lots of A-holes, many from where I’m from, but a whole lot of really good people that you shouldn’t ought to slide down the sh!t chute. BTW, the place is strewn with Trump signs, even along the southern coast, and his supporters are very excited about supporting him.

Yes, it was a generalization, please don’t take what I say literally, haha, it was a poor clench, but Maine and lobster go so well together I could not resist. My apologies to you. Most of the news about Maine, it’s immigrant related, but I’ve always wanted to visit that party of the USA for my bucket list.
