the U.S. is still far from a full reopening. Many states have put a temporary pause on moving to the next stage of reopening, or have even reversed course and closed certain businesses again due to surges in the disease. In order to determine the states with the fewest coronavirus restrictions, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 17 key metrics.
Our data set ranges from whether restaurants are opened to whether the state has required face masks in public and workplace temperature screenings. Read on for the state ranking, additional insight from a panel of experts and a full description of our methodology.

Important lesson for Trump.
Don’t ever agree to urgent please from your staff to take drastic action without asking THIS question:
“What is our EXIT STRATEGY??”
Writing from MA here.
It’s time for my annual eye exam. The eye doctor has been calling, texting, e-mailing, and snail-mailing me to call and make an appointment.
So I called today. They told me I would have to wear a mask for the entire time my eyes were being examined. I told them that I find the mask impairs my breathing, and the eye-exam is stressful enough without having to wear a mask. I can understand wearing it in the lobby, or out in the public, but NOT in the examination chair.
They refused to budge.
So I canceled the appointment. I am not giving in to them. They can’t collect from my insurance if I don’t have the exam, so it’s their loss.
Meanwhile, my eyesight changes very little from year to year.
The more people that say “NO”, the quicker the rules will change.
Surprised by Wisconsin, but not my bottom dwelling state. Were only bested by Hawaii. Thanks, Gov! (you commie b@stard...)
Pathetic TX Gov Abbott has STILL not completely opened up TX.
Sadly, we’re stuck w/him until 2022. :-(
Texas ranks 35th.....because of Gov Grabbit :-(
43 District of Columbia
Without problems why would anyone need an annual eye exam?

I agree.

Yet in Martin County, the mask nazi commissioners still have mandatory masks.
Me I don’t wear one and I go everywhere. Nobody says anything, just looks.
I’m in SC and I now understand why I almost never see anyone wearing a mask any longer.
Yep... all upper level admin “working” for the state have had a vaca since Spring Break. A very comfortable six figure salary for doing more or less nothing but the occasional meeting. Why should they give a shiite as they’re banking regardless. Taxpayer dollars at work.
The restrictions whether by state or country have little to do with the spread of the virus. The big factor is the susceptibility of the population. Many people for what ever reason seem to be less susceptible to the disease. The press is just playing this lock down game as a political cudgel to attack the people they hate and promote the people they like.
I thought we had 57 states.
I’m ashamed of where Texas is on this list, considering the Governor is Republican. I have been to 29 of these states since the Covid Monster hit. Feeling fine.
Western Wisconsin is the most anti-mask state I have been too. Those Mississippi River folks seem to be pretty independent.
