Pennsylvania Nursing Home (LTC) death stats for October 8
Data from PA Department of Health, as of midnight October 7/8.
LTC deaths = 5528 (increase of 3)
Total deaths = 8299 (increase of 27)
Total LTC deaths as percentage of total deaths = 66.6%
Precisely 2/3. Arguably the largest such fraction in the NE-US.
Excellent diligence in this work. In looking at the data and reviewing some of my own work, I have a request. Is there an additional column you could add for comparison along the lines of % of population over 70(?). In local data I’ve come across here in Michigan (https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/0,9753,7-406-98163_98173-—,00.html), I’ve noticed while the cases per million by age group appear roughly uniform above age 10 to 79, the deaths per age group are staggeringly tilted against the elderly:
30-39: Under 150
40-49: Under 200
50-59: Under 350
60-69: ~800
70-79: ~2200
80+: ~7100
It almost makes it seem on par with typical diseases like pneumonia or the flu with regards to this aspect, but just the transmission rate being way above what those two afflictions are capable of.
