Significant decline in prescription opioid abuse seen among Americans at last

Almost 20 years into the opioid epidemic, there finally is evidence of significant and continual decreases in the abuse of these risky pain medications, according to an analysis of national data being presented at the ANESTHESIOLOGY 2020 annual meeting.

The rate of prescription opioids fell 26% between 2007 and 2018, according to the researchers' analysis of the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, an annual survey of about 70,000 Americans age 12 and older asking about their use of tobacco, alcohol and drugs.

Because nobody ever lies when taking a survey.

“thanks junkies, you usually ruin everything”

I could not get vicodin for shingles recently.

And I could barely stand. Slept 3 hours over the previous 3 days due to the pain.

And it’s for my own good, of course.

Every crazy thing the government does is for your own good, didn’t you know? “For your own good” is probably the slogan of tyranny worldwide.

Yes it is always the small minority that inflict the misery on everyone else. There are many cases like yours where people can no longer get legitimate pain relief.

The reason rx are down is because primary care has simply stopped writing for them which is appropriate. If you need narcotics more than 3-4 days you belong under the care of a specialist. This is why tjis is being reported at the ASA (American society of anesthesiologists) annual conference.

“I could not get vicodin for shingles recently.”

That really sucks. I had shingles about 20 years ago and vicodin wasn’t enough. Doc had to give me Dilaudid to relieve the pain. Sure hope I don’t ever have to go through that hell again.

I didn't read the entire article but did it look at the increase of heroin and fentynol use? The government created a huge problem when they went after doctors prescribing the pain medication the government approved of. They told doctors they would be sued for not treating a person's pain. Then they approved oxycontin and the use of pain meds exploded. Once that became big news the all knowing government started going after doctors for prescribing pain medication. The doctors started cutting patients off because they didn't want to lose everything, including their freedom. At the same time this was happening the government allowed potent and cheap heroin and phentynol to flood every city and town across America. It's a typical government creation.

The junkies didn't intimidate doctors into not prescribing needed meds - our government did.
