I will probably take the vaccine, but this strongly reminds me of the seat belt laws. In the beginning, just a slogan (buckle up for safety, buckle up!). Then, the ‘automatic’ belts and buzzers. When that didn’t accomplish their goal, they passed laws. “But hey, we’re not going to stop people just for that!” or so they said. Now, not only will you be pulled over and ticketed just for that infraction, but it has become an excuse to pull over any vehicle.

You’re right. That’s the very moment America began going downhill - when the government felt perfectly comfortable compelling people to do something “for your own good” even if you weren’t hurting anyone else by doing it.
