(ATF) China has responded angrily to a US executive order to look into the country's dependence on rare earths from China. Reuters reported the order announced Wednesday could lead to tariffs, quotas or other possible import restrictions, according to the executive order released on Wednesday.
In China the news was met with irritation. Tencent news, for instance, said the US had entered a state of national emergency.
China does lead exports and has the top position in production of the group of elements that are is a vital material for the manufacture of technology products from mobile phones to military hardware.
In the tit-for-tat trade war, China is holding back exports or rare earths and the US, EU, Australia and others are re-opening old mines and exploring for new deposits. Rare earths are actually plentiful but difficult to get to Chinas are cheaper because they are more accessible.

They could re-open our mines in the mountains of Western North Carolina too. They’re full of goodies.
First in 40 years, actuallyPresident Reagan.

Well no. Reagan single highhandedly put a large portion of the US commercial fishing industry out of business from the cod and lobster grounds in the Northeast to the bottom fish grounds in the Pacific Northwest to the entire tuna seine industry in California.
We sold out our country fair and square and now Trump is welching on the deal and making people think we are liars.
To the victor goes the spoils.
Let's start acting like winners.
China has a rare earths order because the USA, and the West (Australia, for example) GAVE IT TO THEM.
Rare earths are usually by-products of other minerals mining, particularly uranium (something else weve given away). They are energy-intensive, often radioactive, and produced using acid-leach systems.
Places like green-leftist California made it impossible to continue production in the USA.
“The mine closed in 2002 due to environmental restrictions and competition from Chinese suppliers”

That was after Clinton closed the even bigger mine in the upper states - dakota idaho montana - at the request of his chinese friends
Australia has a large deposit of rare earth metals and the state of Nevada has a large deposit of rare earth materials.
........
EPA, warmists, environmentalists......can make it impossible to unearth those rare earth materials.
Unless I misremember, the US was the worlds largest source of rare earths until Bill Clinton...
.......
True.
Agreed.
Also, destroy their poppy fields while we’re at it.
Proper environmental procedure cannot be ignored, least
you end up with a disaster.
Check out the Berkeley Pit copper mine in Butte, MT.
Stillwater Mining in Montana was one of the largest employers in the state, but were not wildly profitable because they tried to be mindful of the environment.
Metal extraction isn’t just crushing rocks. It takes chemicals to release the ores. Therein lies much of the science and pollution.
Just to clarify:
Stillwater was NOT involved in the Butte Copper mining
disaster.
They do platinum group metals mining in MT.

LOL!
Lol. California wont fail PRC China.
GOOD! F ‘em!
If you try and save someone from themselves when they don't want it, you will fail, and they will resent it.
