Westwood One syndicated talker Michael Savage has announced he will end his radio show at the end of the year, but continue hosting his daily podcast.
The 78 year old Savage told listeners to his podcast today, Come January, youre only going to hear me on my podcast. You will not hear me on this radio station anymore as of January. He later added, I cannot give you the reasons. I am constrained for legal reasons. You will no longer hear Michael Savage on radio anywhere in America.
Savage began his radio career on 810 KGO San Francisco as a fill-in host in 1994. The following year he moved to afternoons on 560 KSFO, which would be syndicated by Talk Radio Network in 1999. He would move the show to Cumulus Media in 2012, while changing live timeslots from 6-9pm eastern to 3-6pm in January 2014. At the start of 2019 he switched to a one hour per day radio show followed by one hour podcast. Westwood One will continue to distribute the Michael Savage Podcast.
I too got a disingenuous vibe from the constant fatalism.
Ironically, if he was putting on an act some of what he proposed made sense so it resonated.
But it was always very difficult to believe that someone raised in NY and living in the Bay Area was nevertheless a hard-core conservative or libertarian.
The books were/are paint-by-numbers affairs as most of them are.
Production-wise, the show always seemed a mess. Oddly-timed ad breaks. Ad breaks that lasted ages. You could never tell what was live and what wasn’t. Allowing affiliate stations to choose their own airtime (ie many used tape delay) may have been a concession to carriage but such an arrangement waters down the product. Laura Ingraham limped along for years with a crazy quilt of affiliates and time windows on each.
I havent been listening for awhile but have enjoyed catching the podcast lately.
“I said many are aging & retiring, not that MAGA is over...”
You said “The MAGA generation is aging and retiring.” Your use of “The” logically implied only the elderly are “the MAGA generation”, which allowed Gene Eric’s reasonable inference. Your post 2 expanded the thread. Logic.
Sure, kid.
You hope
This is the wave of the future. These hosts look at Joe Rohans success and beg to be let out of the contracts they have signed in the past and be free of the burdensome program directors, producers and endless meetings trying to sway the direction the host wants to go.
If you are just listening on terrestrial radio, you are fixing to be left in the dust.
Revisit your initial post without partiality
I listened to Savage back in the day. I remember when he kept saying that George W. Bush was not a conservative and he was leading us down the globalist path just like his father. Also, the quote I remember from him most is that Liberalism is a mental illness. Boy was he right in both counts.
If you ever listen to Savages show on the air and you hear a tiny click of static every now and then, thats what youre hearing.
No respectable radio host uses sh!t like that. Its the equivalent of lip-synching the national anthem on live TV.

Are any of them real? I do not know. Aren’t they all just voice-actors in a way?

Michael Savage
All talkers I listened to, and all pro-Trump in the end, all gone. Radio will be poorer without Michael Savage.
Not surprised. Could be also health issues.
I first stumbled across Savage in the days after 9/11 and at that time his was a voice I really needed. But eventually he wore thin and I moved on. OTOH, borders, language, and culture is certainly true, and anyone barred from entry into the UK for his political views must be doing something right.
Kuhner is great! I listen to him on WRKO everyday - plus all of his shows are on podcasts.
‘Delete Silence’ is a utility in Adobe Audition and other applications that can, indeed, seek and delete pauses depending on duration (say 150 ms) or signal dropping below a certain threshold (say -30 dB).
Ironically, I make frequent use of this function on official podcasts and digital recordings of internet streams. A 30 min show might reduce to 22 min without a word missed or any change in pitch, timbre or other quality of voice.
Most radio hosts have state of the art condenser mics costing $5,000 or more and a bank of digital or analog compressors, de-essers, pop stoppers and other sound enhancement technology - which is why their voices sound as if they’re booming even when they speak quietly.
There may be digital artifacts in what you’re hearing but in my long years of experience using similar tools there is none. It’s math, really, and with digital audio there is no aftereffect audible. In live broadcasts it may differ.
I love ya Mark ‘Great One’ Levin but I can’t be fussed to endure 1 hr 30 min when the content lasts only 58 min due to the frequent long pauses.
The granddaddy, Rush Limbaugh, is also a frequent long pauser. Humans need to breathe, of course, but there are diminishing returns for ‘dramatic’ pauses. Don’t get me started on one-sided conversations with his staff where he sniffs and snorts to fill dead air while they talk to him inaudibly. As maddening as being stuck next to someone having a phone conversation on an airplane. You’re trapped.
Cashbox was, indeed, an app used not by hosts but by radio stations who compressed Limbaugh’s program for more ad space. Limbaugh didn’t approve, of course, and noted that he used pauses as punctuation, even as silent nudges in the ribs, and forbade his affiliates to use it.
Still, ‘the fastest three hours’ can be boiled down to about 1 hr 10-15 min. And is :)
Mississippi Talk Radio which is a large radio market removed Savage in one day after his statements on ADD. I mean they didn’t give a warning or schedule change, they removed him for his statements. That market ranged from New Orleans to Mobile, parts of Tennessee, Arkansas, Memphis, Northern Alabama and over to Birmingham.
Been a favorite of mine for 20 years.
The app I forgot to refer to in question is IHeart Radio.
