According to the US government the promulgation of information and opinion is a national security threat.

No wonder the world laughs. It's absurd on its face.

Does the US now need a safe space?

Newsroom for American and European Based Citizens (NAEBC)

Never heard of it. Anyone else? If not, then it wasn't very effective, was it?

They are branding conservatives as innately suspect.

Of course, the premise of viewing Russia as an enemy is flawed in the first place.

Russia has beautiful women, and thus is suited for being an ally.

So, liberals are worried that Russians might make conservatives vote for Trump?

In 2016 Russia wanted Hillary to win.

has posed as an independent news outlet to target right-wing social media users ahead of this year’s vote

NYT, WaPo, LAT, CBS, NBC, Reuters, and on and on, pose "as independent news outlets" constantly. To push their revolutionary communist agenda on those who adore them and skeptical public alike. Which is worse, a Russian outlet that doesn't try to hide its agenda, or ten or twelve that do?

U.S. prosecutors say the agency played a key role in Russian efforts to sway the 2016 election in favour of President Donald Trump, and Facebook and Twitter exposed a fake left-wing media outlet in September which they said was run by people connected to the organisation.

The left-wing side of this gets omitted in most reporting on the subject in the media's haste to pretend the intent was to help Trump, whom Russia like the U.S. establishment didn't expect to win.

Russian ads aimed at African-Americans mimicked social justice movements that were already active in the black community, and tried to create a negative response from other US ethnic groups, the report says. The Black Matters Facebook page, created by Russian operatives, was meant to imitate the Black Lives Matters movement, which campaigned against racism. One of the Black Matters posts, pictured above, advertised a rally for Eric Garner, who was put by police in a chokehold before he died in custody. . .: Russian trolls' chief target was 'black US voters' in 2016

In late 2017, it was first reported by CNN that the pro-Kremlin enterprise masterminded a plot to infiltrate online communities of the Black Lives Matter movement. But New Knowledge’s report, released Monday, shows a much more sustained and purposeful focus on black Americans—as the IRA went about instigating mistrust in law enforcement and political institutions, while cultivating seemingly authentic narratives of black pride.: Targeting Black Americans, Russia's IRA Exploited Racial Wounds

posing as editors and journalists

If 'real' journalist and a 'posing' journalist are engaged in the exact same activity, is there any meaningful difference between them?

So what? Is an ad or political essay written by a Russian any more effective than one written by an American?

The Russians spend 200k on some websites and our politicians spend billions of dollars. Only an idiot like Jimmy “the Weasel” Comey would think this matters.

“The website predominantly focused on U.S. politics and current events, republishing articles from conservative media and paying real Americans to write about politically-sensitive issues. A network of accounts posing as editors and journalists then promoted the articles on social media sites favoured by right-wing users.”

I fail to see the problem here. Did they post lies? Did they bribe anyone? As far as I’m concerned they are just doing the job our journalists (so called) refuse to do.
