I lived in a city (Philadelphia) that simply stopped quality of life infractions from being enforced. These a-hole DNC politicians have turned every American city into a toilet and sh*thole with complete trash people running around doing whatever they want.

““The cite-and-release program has been implemented in other cities where it has helped to reduce jail population,”

And increased crime.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office put in an identical program earlier this year, which was largely driven by all of the new Democrat County Criminal Court judges elected in the 2018 sweep.

Dallas and Austin have already gone down this path, but Houston resisted for a while. Our DA, Kim Ogg, was elected with the same Soros money as many of the “progressive” DAs in the country, but, as I think I’ve mentioned before, I know her personally she is actually more of a law-and-order type. She resisted this program and has been begging the Harris County Commissioner’s Court to let her hire more prosecutors, but the new Democrat majority has said no. I’m voting for Ogg’s opponent this fall, but I’m glad she won her primary because that means we will avoid the horror of a truly left-wing DA for at least four more years.

I can’t say this enough: LOCAL ELECTIONS MATTER. As bad as the federal government can be, no one can ruin your world faster than a crappy left-wing local government. We’re starting to see that in Houston: The Democrat-dominated city government used to be held in check by the more powerful Republican-dominated Harris County government, but we lost that bulwark in 2018, and we are about to suffer the consequences.

I am not in agreement with not jailing or punishing low level criminals.

However....if the judges are not going to set a bail that keeps them in jail and/or the prosecutors are not going to prosecute these “low level” offenses....issuing a criminal citation with a court date for an initial hearing on the citation is a good way to let the cop get back to work instead of spending 3 hours on paperwork so the jerj can just get released before the cop is done typing.

By the way, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: Anyone who thinks they are doing shoplifters a favor by essentially decriminalizing shoplifting may soon realize that our legal system doesn’t exist to punish theft. It exists to PROTECT thieves from their victims.

in my state, even though a cell phone’s value is below the filing standard for felony theft, taking anything off of a person (pickpocket/purse snatch) is a felony theft (Theft 1)

The last time I visited Houston (many years ago) I stopped by a BBQ restaurant for lunch. As I looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows I noticed a stream of shadows flitting about in the hedge that ringed the building. I thought they were birds - rats!

"The following Class A and B misdemeanors are eligible for tickets instead of jail time: Possession of a controlled substance, if the controlled substance is four ounces or less Criminal Mischief..."

Wow. That would be a lot of meth or fentanyl and crimes expanding like wildfire. Quite a few cities have implemented similar policies on theft, too. Hold on to your hats, folks. Watch for much more rapid increases in the number of Democrats, if we're not already overloaded.

A hotter wind is coming for sure. Campaign for President Trump and straight Republican ballots, if you want freedoms for defending yourselves.

And that’s exactly why I took the LTC course last weekend, and get my fingerprinting this weekend.

I’m 35 miles outside of downtown Houston, and fortunately not in Harris county.

he new mayor would be popular in Austin also.

The stupid thing is Houston does have the former Austin chief of police.

Yep! Houston has turned into a crap hole. If, and dear Lord please let it happen, Trump wins re-election I think he will be the last Republican President. I think with the leftward shift of politics in Houston and the rampant theft/cheating/ballot harvesting that Houston will soon go blue. When that happens I think Texas will go blue and that will be it. One party rule. I pray that Trump can change it but I am afraid it won’t happen.

Houston has already gone blue, I’m afraid. The city itself has not had a Republican mayor since Jim McConn almost 40 years ago. Harris County was mostly Republican, but not any more. Democrats have been winning most county-wife races in Presidential years for over a decade now. Republicans were still sweeping county-wide races in midterm years, but we had a Democrat sweep in 2018. I don’t think a lot of people understand how big a deal that was.

Harris County Republicans are trying to win some seats back this year, but there is not a lot of optimism. Almost none of the Republican judges who were swept out in 2018 are running this year, even though there are several Democrat judges who don’t even have opponents this year. That’s not a great sign.

Given all the crimes requiring at least $100 minimum value to even be citable by police, Houston just became a petty crime center of excellence. Just another inspired Democrat following the great examples being set by Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc. etc.

Why would any retail business ever locate to or stay in these cities?

Just another reason I got out of Houston and Harris County when I did over 20 years ago.

I don’t know if it ever was but if it still is, it’s not in a good way (at least, not Houston).
