Debate #1 Recap: Trump Wins, Biden Doesn't Faint, Chris Wallace Goes Down Hard
PJ Media ^ | 09/30/2020 | Tyler O'Neil

President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden went head-to-head on Tuesday night, and moderator Chris Wallace got knocked out. Wallace seemed to push left-wing talking points to help Biden and hurt Trump, but both candidates talked over him. Trump and Biden brought out the fisticuffs and both got in a few good hits. Biden stumbled but he did not come across as a bumbling fool.

While Trump and Biden both went on the offensive, Trump got in more clear statements and Biden came across as shifty, especially on packing the Supreme Court.

Wallace asked Biden if he would support expanding the Supreme Court to more than nine justices, noting that Democrats brought up the issue first. Biden refused to answer the question, and Trump pressed him.

When Trump pressed him, “Why aren’t you going to answer that question?” Biden shot back, “Would you shut up, man?”

After Trump asked, “Who is on your list, Joe?” Biden responded by saying, “This is so unpresidential.”

Not only did Biden dodge the question, but he lost his cool about the issue, and then accused his opponent of being unpresidential right after he said, “Would you shut up, man?”

Trump's right.

Joe won't answer whether he'd pack the court and end the filibuster. Candidates are candidates and they're supposed to, you know, take positions on things. Him ducking this shows how he is not "the Democratic Party"#Debates2020 pic.twitter.com/HK2TPokq2m

— Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) September 30, 2020

On the issue of nominating Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s replacement to the Supreme Court, Trump insisted, “I’m not elected for three years, I’m elected for four years.” He suggested that Biden’s call for delaying the nomination and confirmation until after the election would essentially deny Trump’s presidency — an effective counter.

The most telling part of the debate for me was when Trump brought up the issue of Hunter Biden and Joe’s influence peddling. Biden’s lame response was it has been “discredited” ( if it has been discredited credibly, I’d like to see where ).

It was already getting interesting and Biden was already cornered before Chris Wallace butted in and changed the topic.... BUMMER !!

George Stephanopoulos called the first debate between Joe Biden and President Trump “the worst presidential debate I’ve ever seen,” but I rather liked it. Frankly, the only thing that made it bad, in my opinion, was Chris Wallace trying to moderate. Why do we need moderators for debates? I think it would be better to just let the candidates ask each other the questions they want answered and let them go. Fight it out!

Every time the debate seemed to be getting into something good, Wallace would jump in to demand that all the fun stop immediately—and then force us to eat our vegetables.

But we don’t want peas, Chris. We want a grudge match. We want UFC-style slugging it out that leaves bruises we’ll all be talking about for weeks to come.

Those of you wringing your hands about how “mean” and “unprofessional” it was are liars. You loved it, but you don’t want anyone to know that. It was entertaining as heck.

Despite Wallace’s best attempts, the president still got some good Trumpisms in. Here are a few of Trump’s funniest moments:

“Masks aren’t stupid per se, but Joe Biden looks really dumb in his.”

Trump went on the attack to throw Joe off-balance and boy, did he asked Joe point blank whether or not he planned to pack the Supreme Court ... Biden declines to answer the question ( I’ll take that as a YES, Joe ).

Here’s another funny part:

Chris Wallace: “Vice President Biden, you are holding much smaller events —”

President Trump: “Because nobody will show up.”

Trump always has double duty: debate the candidate AND the moderator!

Trump to Chris Wallace: “I guess I’m debating you.”

This was brutal:

President Trump: “Don’t ever use the word ‘smart’ with me. Don’t ever use that word, because you know what? There’s nothing smart about you, Joe.”

What was your favorite jab of the evening? How did you think the candidates did? Personally, I was surprised that Biden made it to the end without a bathroom break. Other than that, nothing about it surprised me. I expected to see these guys duke it out. The real loser was Chris Wallace, who interrupted the president every time he tried to finish a thought while allowing Biden extra time.

He suggested that Biden’s call for delaying the nomination and confirmation until after the election would essentially deny Trump’s presidency — an effective counter.

Since 2016 the Democrats have acted like Trump is an illegitimate president who doesn't deserve the office. The coup. The impeachment. They deny his presidency completely.

Jerkface Chuck (as Joe Biden called him) Wallace blamed the fires in California on Climate Change and then every time Dr President Trump tried to explain that the fires were/are the result of California forest management policies, Chuck tried to steer him back to Climate Change as if he wasn’t the one who made the tie in the first place.

The writer has an accurate take. Trump scored some major points and Wallace was worse than a disgrace.

Lefties are saying Wall-ace didn’t control Trump enough.

Now Wall-ace gets to say: “Since I got complaints from both sides I must have done a great job.”

I think when the transcript is reviewed, Trump will have done much better than expected.

He should get out in front of the “Stand down Stand by” issue.

No doubt, even with Wallace being rude and corrupt the clips of the debate FOR Trump are plentiful.

“Don’t ever use the word ‘smart’ with me. Don’t ever use that word, because you know what? There’s nothing smart about you, Joe.”

More than that. He asked Biden what he majored in at the black college he claimed to go to, and pointed out Biden finished at the bottom of his class.

What was your favorite jab of the evening?

At one point Joe was rattling off a list of things. He started with "Number 1," said something, and he started saying "Number 2," before Trump interrupted. He then went on to say, "Number 3," without saying anything after "Number 2," and Trump keep talking and makes an aside, "By the way, you're on number 2."

The wife and I lost it.

Having slept on it, I wake up to the conclusion that Wallace was the big loser in this debate. He came off as a horse’s ass, a shill for Biden. I think most people, even those who can’t make up their mind about how to vote, would see through this.

Trump had to release the Kraken to counter this, ugly as that might seem, and he did so. The alternative would be just to stand there and let all those slanders go unchallenged. If anything, I thought he wasn’t aggressive enough. Next time, gloves off. Start ripping into the “moderators” for their biases. Don’t relent. Make it personal. Probe for weaknesses, then exploit them. Hurt their feelings. No mercy.

This reminds me of the Trump-Hillary debate 4 years ago in which CNN got in trouble for taking sides. Didn’t work for Dems then either.

Trump is in the driver’s seat, that’s the take.

Hispanics know strength when they see it. They polled for Trump’s performance over Biden’s last night 66-34.

The gripe from the Jeb Bush types is exactly the same as 4 years ago, “Trump is so mean”. Remember Jeb?

Wallace tried to defending Obama/Biden over the number of jobs created by Obama/Biden but failed to mention 95% of the jobs created by Biden were low wage, temporary or part-time ‘gig’ jobs. Obama/Biden did not know how to bring back high paying manufacturing jobs to US:

By the way, last night was the first time I have heard Proud Boys. I can’t believe Wallace tried to blame them for Antifa’s riots in Portland.

What a crock.
