LIVE at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 29: President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden take part in the first presidential debate between the two candidates. The Cleveland, Ohio event is moderated by Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace.
There was a consensus that John Kerry won his 1st debate against Bush because he came out with a lot of fire, and the challenger has to show fire.... A lot of people here criticizing Trump for showing too much fire, I disagree....Biden was the one that had to prove himself, and he looked, moved, and sounded like he’s 20 years older than Trump, and is only running because, for some strange reason, he won the nomination, so he feels obligated to go through the motions.....he had no fire at all....made Bob Dole look like Trump by comparison.....Trump looked young, energetic and animated.... That’s a lot more important than whether or not he seized every opportunity or interrupted too much
Chris Wallace was incredibly inept at moderating the debate and showed his incompetence and bias - unfit for the job.
That’s what Pence is for, he’s the changeup.
I completely agree!!
That kind of honesty will get you in trouble...
It was very important that he was the only adult in this room and took command of it rather than trade insults. Let Biden look like the jerk for his insults against a cool, witty, and collected Trump.
Well said!
I guess I misheard.
I thought he said to stand down.
If he said *Stand by*, all the better.
Biden is taking away Trumps white voter advantage quite significantly because of suburban women.
= = = =
I think you’re taking what Joe is taking.
You have flipped your lid.
Very good point, some moderators have also pointed out that Bidenâs answers and comments were obviously rehearsed. I think Trump was trying to push him and force him off script. It was also obvious Wallace was trying to protect Biden.
True. He will trash Trump every chance he gets through his next Sunday show, though.
“....Without help from 500 newspapers. ....”
And tonight Trump had to debate two people.
Trump was the one with tons of substance though. The two he had to debate had no substance.
Some of us are tired of losing graciously rather than winning ugly.
The more I think about it, it was a “Kobiyashi Maru” for Trump.
So the best he could do was to drag Biden into the mud with him, and shed that veneer that Joe was a ‘decent guy’. Everybody knows what Trump is by now, they just thought Joe was different, they learned he really isn’t.
You haven’t commented 6 times this year until tonight and now you comment about 25 times.
Give it up, plant. You aren’t fooling anyone.
I think Biden really blew it with both the *Oh shut up* comment, and the one where he said that Trump is a liar and lies all the time.
Biden did not take any of Trumps voters.
Yes, I could see that too, however with Wallace arguing with Trump or schooling him it was interesting to see Biden just sit back and watch......because ‘the less’ Biden had to speak at any time the better off he was because he can't sustain at length with any answers off the top of his head...they're all canned/scripted....
To memorize something for two minutes isn't hard for Biden.....that's why he tells his old stories he knows well to deflect and fill in...Again.his favorite deflective lines are.....”Look” or "Here's the deal folks” it's then he carries the topic of 'his choice'.
Bet you loved the Romney debates.
Cool and collected isn’t what won 2016. Being overly nasty tonight isn’t either. He’s gotta find a balance. He should’ve been more prepared on covid, but he really can’t say that much more than he did. He won on most topics though, but that interrupting manner didn’t work that well overall.
I think he won, and so far most of the online polls are agreeing. But not by very much, this should’ve been a knock-out.
Who cares. This is what matters - Spanish speaking viewers of Telemundo expressed their preference of who won tonights presidential debate: 66% Trump 34% Biden. Telemundo is a very left of center Spanish station. For them to have this kind of result is astounding. People here are letting their biases influence their analysis. -
