President Donald Trump on Sunday said the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court will be done quickly and easily before the November election.
There is a “tremendous amount of time” for her nomination, the president said on Sunday.
“I think we could have it done easily before the election,” he told Fox News, adding that they were “going to try and have it done quickly,” while saying, “I think she’ll be confirmed.”
The president unveiled Barrett as his choice for the Supreme Court on Saturday at the White House, coming about eight days after Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died at age 87.
Democrats, in the interim, have strongly criticized Trump and GOP senators for trying to replace Ginsburg, saying that the winner of the next election should do so. GOP senators and the White House responded by saying it is Trump’s constitutionally-mandated duty.
Barrett on Saturday said she would “faithfully and impartially discharge” her duties under the Constitution if she is confirmed to the Supreme Court. “I pledge to discharge the responsibilities of this job to the very best of my ability,” Barrett said. “I love the United States and I love the United States Constitution.”
She also praised Ginsburg, saying, “should I be confirmed, I will be mindful of who came before me.” Barrett also praised former Justice Antonin Scalia, whom she had worked for before his death in 2016, saying, “His judicial philosophy is mine too: A judge must apply the law as written. Judges are not policymakers and they must be resolute in setting aside any policy views they might hold.”

I’m not so sure about that. It would seem unfair on its face to have a nominee face a committee hearing without time to prepare herself.
Barrett is going to be attacked by the Democrats over her position on existing medical conditions. If Trump and Barrett are not prepared to deal with this attack, it could get ugly. The Democrats are lying in ambush and won’t fight fair.
The schedule and the votes are in place to confirm her, but a hot button issue can affect a few wobbly Senators.

Fortunately, she made it clear in 2016 when Republicans and Democrats fought over filling the vacancy left by Antonin Scalia’s sudden death nine months before the election.
When asked if the Senate should consider then-President Barack Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland, Ginsburg said, “That’s their job,” the New York Times reported.
“There’s nothing in the Constitution that says the president stops being president in his last year,” Ginsburg added.
Several months later, Ginsburg said having only eight justices on the Supreme Court is not good.
Barrett would probably like some prep time.
Give the Dems 5 minutes each to trash her and then vote her in. Same day.
And create video that can be used against them in campaign ads.

The current schedule needs to be sped up by a week or more.
