Last year, students at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, one of the nations most prestigious public schools, marked a map hanging in a hallway with their families far-flung places of origin: from Seoul to Beijing to Hyderabad. Twenty years ago, 70 percent of TJ students were white; today, 79 percent are minority, most from Asian immigrant families.
TJ is a testament to American meritocracys melting potbut last week, Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Scott Brabrand announced a plan to reduce the number of Asian students at this selective high school. In a four-hour online work session alongside the districts all-Democratic school board, Brabrand laid out an initiative to eliminate TJs race-blind, merit-based admissions test and replace it with a merit lottery open to all eighth-graders with a minimum GPA of 3.5 in order to increase equity of opportunity.
This is not a novel development in American public education. The New York Times has covered activist efforts in New York City to abolish selective high schools on the grounds that sorting students by standardized test scores amounts to institutional racism. Asian-American parents objecting to this proposal have been accused by academics of fighting to keep unjust structures in tact [sic] by denying historical and contemporary systemic anti-Black racial oppression. For their part, New Yorks education bureaucrats have taken aim at the concepts of academic merit and objectivity as manifestations of white supremacy culture.
The Left has redefined educational equity to mean not just lifting the bottom up but also tearing the top down. Two weeks ago, in a town hall with TJ students, Virginia Education secretary Atif Qarni compared students who study with private tutors to athletes who take illegal performance enhancement drugs.

Another attempt to drag Fairfax further into the cesspool.
Guarantee that school is one that Dorkbama, the Muslim eunuch quota boy (smartest president EVAH) couldn’t even have qualified as a janitor in that high school.
Ignorance is strength. See my tagline.
Interesting quote: “I came to America because I believe in the American Dream of hard work and merit, she said. Do Americans still believe in the American Dream?
*****
I think I see the problem.
The left wants to turn the Secretary of Education into the Handicapper General.
Excellence replaces with mediocrity. The liberal way.
Urban thugs are too dumb to compete.
Asian families should get together and charge the school board with discrimination.
Affirmative action has always meant a lowering of standards and ignoring individual capabilities. Instead the goal is to showcase “diversity”. This nonsense, while detrimental to any culture, was bearable as long as true merit and talent had clear avenues to succeed despite the absurdities. What is now being witnessed is that the Left sees those unblocked avenues as a threat to their narrative and efforts to solidify power. Any achievment is now attacked as “racist”. Recently De Blasio, the communist mayor of New York, went on a rant denouncing parochial, private and charter schools.
That's not an Education Secretary.
That's somebody trying to cheat at Scrabble.
“The left wants to turn the Secretary of Education into the Handicapper General.”
Gotta wonder what they would think of Harrison Bergeron.
They never come up with a diversity lottery to get into crappy schools....
The hard working ones still do. The problem is the lazy retards breed at a high number, and faster rate.
Demographics is destiny.
Chairman Xi is smiling, as America continues to self destruct.
I believe it was in NYC that someone said the biggest problem with the schools were (white) parents who encouraged and helped their children to be successful in school, because it put the children of parents who couldn’t be bothered at a disadvantage.
As the decadence of Western Civilisation afflicts America more and more thoroughly, all standards lower, including, most notably, moral standards.
Once decadence has afflicted a civilisation, is its fall inevitable?
Donald Trump thinks not.
President Trump is convinced that, if there is a point of no return, the USA has not reached it yet, that the decay of America can be reversed and the USA sent soaring again into ascendency.
So convinced was he that he risked everything--a considerable amount in his case--to rescue his beloved USA from destruction and decay.
Pray that he's right. Pray that he succeeds.
If he does, he will have been the Greatest President in US History,
And in his words: "The best is yet to come."
