Watching the recent live streams of various “protests” I’d say you are right.
Bored white teens & twenties can’t go to bars and nightclubs for hookups so they check out the meat market at the downtown protest.
Like when I got out of the Navy in 1971 We’d go to the protests to hook up. ‘Cept they didn’t throw molotov cocktails yet.
