The FDA will ask drug companies to follow late-stage clinical trial participants for a median of at least 2 months, starting after they receive a second dose of the vaccine, the newspaper reported. The FDA will also look for at least five cases of severe COVID-19 in the placebo group for each clinical trial, as well as cases in older patients.

....anything to prolong the panic and prevent a return to REAL January 2020 normal.
Why 2 months? Why not 1/2 month or 16 months - or any time in between? If they got the vaccine months ago, they should have dropped dead already if it were bad.
Exactly right, Louie. Like everything else they do this is for political reasons.
FDA, move the goalposts much???
Changing regs this late only means its political.
double blind placebo tests using employees of the NIH/CDC, including management aka Fauci.
Yeah, well, it just seems odd to grab at a certain number. What if it were bad, but it won’t show up as such for 2 months and 3 days?
Have a slow ongoing rollout now and see how things are in two months.
With just about every vaccine you’re going to have at least a few people who have bad reactions, some mild, some very severe. That’s just the way it is. I’d be willing to give it a shot (bad pun, I know) - not a trial/test or placebo version.
Reasonable,,,

Trump already said the White House has to approve it, and they havent yet
They should just release a placebo vaccine now and the real one later after it’s been properly safety tested.
All i know is the same people complaining about the timeframe now, will be the same ones complaining several years after if any long term problems crop up, then they will scream about it not being tested long enough.
And we have zero idea of long term issues with this.
Especially the mRNA vax.
A brand new rule, which is calculated mathematically, to ensure that no vaccine can be approved until the second week after the election.
And then try to make that political interference seem as objective as possible, to increase the odds of getting away with it.
Aren't these new tougher rules?
And why make the rules tougher during a pandemic?

“we have zero idea of long term issues with this.”

True. As is the fact we have zero idea if we’ll be injured or killed in an accident tomorrow or ten years from tomorrow.
“Trump already said the White House has to approve it”

I don’t know that the President gets to make decisions on what medical treatment is authorized.
And long term we MIGHT get struck by an asteroid.

I don’t even wanna get into the Sun going supernova and taking out the whole dang solar system.
Sounds like a back-door way to say “we the entrenched democrats of the FDA want to make it impossible to have a vaccine before the election”.
