President Trump announced new restrictions for American travelers going to Cuba, barring them from purchasing rum and tobacco or staying in Cuban government-funded hotels.

The Treasury Department announced regulatory changes under the new rules that restrict importing Cuba-origin alcohol and tobacco products and prevent travelers from attending or organizing certain professional meetings or conferences in Cuba, as well as public performances, clinics, workshops, competitions, and other exhibitions in the country.

Trump also applied new sanctions against Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua as part of an ongoing crackdown against communism.

I had Cuban Rum on a vacation in Bahamas in 2011. It is almost the same as basic Bacardi

For rum I have Trinidad and for cigars there is Honduras.

Why does not Haiti produce cigars?

Being a non-smoker, Trump didn’t pull a JFK and buy up the lion’s share of Havana cigars before imposing the ban.

No one is going there anyway - it stinks as a vacation destination.

Unreliable power, no internet, no 5 star amenities. All they got is poverty so not even the cruise ships want to go there.

“Why does not Haiti produce cigars?”

Training zombies to roll them would be a huge undertaking,

Perhaps so, but I’m glad to have had the privilege of getting to sample many fine Cuban foods when growing up, and which I crave from time to time. During lockdown time, I learned how to make authentic Cuban bread from scratch. I made the best darn Cuban sandwich this side of the Mason-Dixon, I think.

Does have a good amount of classic cars, though, if you’re into that.

Which rum do you use? I drink Appleton Estate from Jamaica. I love almost any rum from the Caribbean.

Let's face it: many of the people who made Habana cigars left for Florida and Central America during the Cuban Revolution. You can get often better than Habana quality cigars from the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.

Actually that was the only thing i enjoyed in Cuba. I did see europeans who apparently enjoyed the "poverty porn" as it is called.

Dreary joyless place.

“Cadillac with a Trabant drivetrain.”

There ya go!
I think the country that got hit the hardest with the fall of the USSR was East Germany. Being the window-showcase of the Soviet Union, it got a lot of money to keep things operating in it’s Ponzi-type economic setup. No USSR, no sugar daddy.

But ya gotta love the Trabby in a “so bad it’s good” way.

We should end the embargo, and flood Cuba with capitalism. There should be Wal-Marts and McDonald’s everywhere in Cuba. And there should be book stores selling books that are critical of Cuba.

My go to rum is Gosling, made in Bermuda. It would be easy for me to get into trouble with this good stuff.

Is there any way that we can blame the Cuban communist tobacconists for making Rush sick?
