I think the country that got hit the hardest with the fall of the USSR was East Germany. Being the window-showcase of the Soviet Union, it got a lot of money to keep things operating in it’s Ponzi-type economic setup. No USSR, no sugar daddy.

That used to be true many years ago, but now that all the big German companies are putting up new factories in the former German Democratic Republic....
