Norm #1: When Democrats are in charge of both the Senate and the White House, they are free to nominate and confirm any justice they please, as quickly as they please, as they did in the cases of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan.
Norm #2: When Democrats only run the White House, they are free to nominate any SCOTUS justice they please, and they also get to dictate whom Republicans are allowed to confirm, as they tried to do in the case of Merrick Garland — blessed be his memory.
Norm #3: When Democrats run neither the nomination process nor the confirmation process, they get to dictate who is confirmed to the Court, as they argue today in the case of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s replacement.
Norm #4: If Republicans fail to adhere to all these rules, Democrats have license to burn everything down to the ground. (And, of course, I only mean that 90 percent metaphorically.)

Politics is and has always been a partisan exercise , particularly when it comes to SC appointments. When your party has the power to appoint with both the Presidency and Senate majority, you get to choose, The disgruntled on the other side citing the Republicans for hypocrisy and disingenuousness when it comes to this appointment did not really fall off the turnip truck. I suspect they are aware their party would be doing the same thing,. Isn’t that why Congress is peopled primarily by lawyers trained to take either of a position depending on a client’s interest whether one sincerely believes it or not. Citing congressional politicians for hypocrisy is comparable to citing mardi gras participants on Bourbon Street for public intoxication. After a while, you run out of tickets. So, spare us the theatrical sanctimony..
Democrats taught us a lot about SC “norms”.
Most of all they taught us that this is existential war and there are no rules.
Lock downs actually increase the total number of deaths.
The vast majority of people below 60 that get covid are pefectly okay. They are at little risk. As the young get the disease we obtain “herd immunity” and the disease die out. Sweden recognized this strategy and followed it. Their initial death rate was very high compared to the rest of Europe. Now it is much lower than the rest of Europe.
The rest of Europe and for that matter the USA is using the lock down strategy. This delays herd immunity and leaves an infectious pool that may infect the old or those with other medical problems that puts them at risk. Until we have an effective vaccine the most logical course is to encourage the infection amongst the young and healthy and achieve herd immunity and thus the infection dies out in the population.
Example of herd immunity. If on the average 1 person infects two people you have a RO of two. This then becomes 4 8 16 etc. It is then exponential. If you have half the population no longer infective due to having the virus the RO becomes 1. Thus each infected person gives it to only one person. Once the RO goes below 1 the infection dies. For example assume the RO is 0.8 in 5 infection cycles the RO is .32 and the infection is on its way to extinction.
Sweden did it right. They suffered great statistical death at the onset. Their total per capita death rate is below much of Western Europe. They did not wreck their economy.
Dr. Fauci is an extremely gifted and knowledgeable scientist. He knows all of this. He is also a political charlatan. His actions are wrecking the economy of the USA and this is by design. He knows how this should have been handled. He knows HCQ is very effective if given early along with azithromycin and zinc. He knows this because it was used for SARs years ago when he was in the same position then as today.
Fauci is a political hit man. He forgot the part of the Hippocratic Oath that says, DO NO HARM!
Fauci is a man to be scorned. He has much blood on his hands.
