damn right we’d better hope to avoid this; the Spanish civil war was horrendous, rife with former friends killing each other with no more remorse than if they’d swatted a fly...

I don’t see any other way. There is no commonality between us and them (as the Pink Floyd song goes).
If “we” win, they will get worse. If they win (or steal it, which most likely will happen), they will go on a revenge filled purge this country has never seen.
Either way, you and I are going to be part of the war if we like it or not. The key thing to is, will our children live in freedom and liberty or slavery to the tyrants.
