Sen. Mitt Romney's (R-Utah) announcement on Tuesday that he will entertain confirming President Trump's Supreme Court nominee this year sparked fervent responses from both liberals and conservatives on social media.
Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, was seen as crucial in Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) plan to vote on the president's nominee to fill the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's seat. The president has said his team is vetting a shortlist of five women and wants his nominee confirmed before Election Day. He is expected to announce his nominee on Saturday.
Romney's decision essentially gives McConnell the necessary support to move a Supreme Court nominee this year. The announcement from the Utah senator, who was the only Republican to vote for an article of impeachment against the president during his Senate trial in January, sparked anger from the left and praise from the right.
Mitt Romney will vote on the nominee.
Its over for the Democrats.
Thank you, Senator.

Mitt Romney has always been who we thought he was and always will be and no amount of performative tweets and op-eds on his part decrying Trump's corruption is ever going to change that.

The big pro-life victory comes on top of a mountain of American deaths. But still worth it for Romney et al. Still worth it.

lol at all the people who thought Mitt Romney to be one of the good guys.

Wow! Mitt Romney is in on the SCOTUS vote!
I have so many snarky things to add about him, but he gets a pass for a few weeks.

So, Mit Romney thinks the president committed high crimes and should be removed from office, but should get to replace RBG on SCOTUS. Got it. Dems, we need to fight back. Impeach Bill Barr or Trump again if we have to.

In a statement released on social media, Romney cited the Constitution as a key component to his decision.
"The Constitution gives the President the power to nominate and the Senate the authority to provide advice and consent on Supreme Court nominees. Accordingly, I intend to follow the Constitution and precedent in considering the Presidents nominee. If the nominee reaches the Senate floor, I intend to vote based upon their qualifications," Romney wrote.
As far as I know he hasnt said HOW he would vote...kind of important.
Hopefully his constituents have been giving him an earful about this.
This is just his position for now.
Believe me, when the time comes in a month or so, he’ll make his stand, like McCain’s thumbs down on health care.
He exists in the Senate solely to screw Trump.
I would expect his vote to be a pro-life vote, so I think he’s a Yes for anyone on the list.
I see what you did there
The level of unhingediness is spectacular. And entertaining
Yes, I think so...
I have a Democrat neighbor who had asked why the Republicans wouldn’t nominate someone like McCain for whom he could vote? McCain was nominated. Did he vote for him? No.
Romney will be reminded about how fleeting pandering to the left is when they turn on him viciously. Somehow he has forgotten how they hated him when he ran against Obama. Kind of like Cain forgetting how disgustingly he was treated when he ran for President.
Exactly
Hell probably pull a McCain
Drama queen
Meant McCain...
Romney... We don’t need to hear from anyone going by the name Pierre Delecto.
As far as I know he hasnt said HOW he would vote...kind of important.
He’s always been part of the enemy infiltrators. Confused beyond recovery or deliberate; an enemy.
Entertaining. However, the most over-the-top reaction so far is the diatribe Lemon went on on his TV show. Unhinged and funny as hell.
Oh my!
That’s the important part. We’ll have to see how this sumb!tch votes!
It would be easier for Mitt to attack the timing and DjT for his refusal to delay and “allowing the people to decide”, than it will be for him to oppose a pro-life nominee. So, I’d say he’s in our column.
Ds done. Country saved....although one clever poster warned against counting our Mitts before he chickens.
“that he will entertain confirming President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee”
He will “entertain” the “consideration” of a Trump nominee.
I have learned to never trust Mitt.
I still think he still wants to take a poke at Trump AND would enjoy getting the Left to love him, just for spiting Trump.
