The 2020 Emmy Awards not only hit their lowest ever viewership on Sunday night, but also managed to score the lowest viewership for any major awards show in history, according to Nielsen.
The award show averaged a 1.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 6.1 million viewers total for ABC, dropping roughly 12 percent from last year’s total viewership. This year’s low ratings come after last year’s historic low for a top TV awards show, during which the host-less ceremony aired on Fox with a 33 percent decline from the previous year.
Last year was the first time the Emmys saw less than 7 million viewers, according to Deadline, but this year’s results barely cracked 6 million.

However, I also think Red Badger is right a couple of comments below yours - they don't care. The "show" isn't about ratings, it is an expression of mutual admiration. They put it on for each other and their own egos. All of us little people are supposed to look on in awe and envy. Well, I've never watched any of their "awards" shows (aka self-aggrandizing festivals). I have seen the occasional out-take or clip when someone else has pointed it out as interesting. But watch one? Ha! I'd rather re-organize kitchen cabinets, maybe clean out the garage, take the dog for a walk... Watching their BS would come in on my list of fun things to do somewhere in the neighborhood of going to the dentist or having a physical and prostate exam, maybe even around colonoscopy level fun.
People don’t like being lectured by sniveling spoiled drug addled perverts. Who knew!
I’ve never watched the Emmys. If I want to see pics of Jennifer Aniston I can always google them.
So 33% drop last year, and a 12% drop added to that this year.

Then Jimmy Kimmel comes on stage.
I was sure he had left the United States altogether.
Nobody under the age of about fifty even cares about the Emmys.
My tv hasn’t been on in months. I stream everything I watch on my ipad.
IMO the worst of the Hollywood scolds is Meryl “Swordnose” Streep, she who boasts about being of pure Aryan blood.
My view of such awards show went below zero when one Oscar winner praised the Khmer Rouge for starting the genocide campaign in Cambodia. My parents never before heard me cuss a blue streak.
