NFL Star Maurkice Pouncey Wears The Name Of A Police Officer Killed In The Line Of Duty On His Helmet

Pittsburgh Steelers player Maurkice Pouncey honored Eric Kelly on his helmet Sunday against the Broncos.

Pouncey took the field against Denver wearing Kelly’s name on the back of his helmet after most of the team wore Antwon Rose Jr.’s name last week.

According to TribLive.com, Kelly was a Pittsburgh police officer killed in the line of duty back in 2009 while responding to a call about two other officers being killed. You can see a photo of Pouncey’s helmet in the tweet below.

This is a classy move from Pouncey. Last week, the majority of the Steelers wore Antwon Rose Jr.’s name on their helmets, and that’s caused some issues. Rose was killed by Pittsburgh police in 2018 after police stopped his vehicle because it matched the description of a drive-by shooting suspect, according to CBS Sports.

In the aftermath, Pouncey said he should have done more research, and then opted to wear Kelly’s name.

Given how the entire NFL seems to be all in on the social justice trend, you have to applaud Pouncey for breaking from the majority of the league.

Praising the police isn’t a popular proposal at all in sports right now. In fact, it might be the most unpopular thing you could do.

Yet, Pouncey didn’t hesitate to honor a police officer struck down while protecting and serving.

Pouncey is also now the second Steelers player to do something of this nature. Alejandro Villanueva previously wore the name of war hero Alwyn Cashe on his helmet.

Good for Pouncey for taking a stand to honor a slain police officer. The NFL could use a little more of that.

Good for him.
But too little too late for the NFL.

Pouncey, his teammate Villanueva and a few others remind me that there are still people in the @NFL that are worthy of support.

...Things are going to get really ugly for him, really quick. We’ll see how quickly he’s given an ‘attitude adjustment’ and forced to get with the pogrom (not a typo).

Remember what happened to Carr?

Things that are “controversial” for the NFL:

Wearing the name of a fallen officer. Maurkice Pouncey

Wearing the name of a fallen soldier. Alejandro Villanueva

Go Steelers Offensive line!

Standing for the National Anthem. Baker Mayfield

You’ll have to refresh my memory. Which Carr? There are actually several NFL players listed with that particular surname.

Derek Carr. Quarterback for the Raiders.

Didn’t kneel with the team so the offensive line just let rushers through to punish him.

Ended up with some damage to his spine.

Good for him.
In these days, good old common sense seems radical.

Now the blm nfl haters will pounce on pouncy.

He is pretty tough, but where will his teammates line up?

This might be the act that turns the nfl back to football and away from virtue signalling.

How about wearing no name at all? Cut all the social justice crap. Cut all the political crap. The players should remove their own names from their jerseys and play as a team. Okay, the last one will never fly, but there was a day in which that was the case in football. It’s too late for me. I’m never going to watch an NFL game again.

The lack of respect for our National Anthem was the straw that broke the camel’s back. There are many of us finding something else to do productive, rather than watch over paid spoiled sports players.

Second straight week without the NFL. I understand the team I usually follow did very well, but I haven’t watched a second and quite frankly haven’t really missed it.
