Graham Payne-Reichert logged onto Zoom from a lawn chair in the backyard of his unofficial fraternity house, surrounded by three other members of Delta Tau Delta and a futon that had mysteriously snapped in half a few months before.
He watched faces appear one by one on his screen first his former roommate, then his Spikeball teammate, then the older fraternity brother who had put him at ease during a hard transition to American University just two years ago.
It was one month after the killing of George Floyd and Payne-Reichert, vice president of his fraternity, kicked off a virtual meeting that would break up the chapter he once adored.
For two hours, the virtual group of 26 men discussed the lack of diversity in their fraternity chapter and the Instagram pages that shared anonymous accounts of racism and sexual assault at their school. The meeting ended with a unanimous vote to disband the chapter of Delta Tau Delta.

“Well you can do what you want to us, but we are not just going to sit here, and listen to you badmouth the United States of America!”
Hoorah for the stupents.
Freedom of Assembly under Leftist attack - FIGHT BACK WITH FORCE!!!!
I would rather he be a member of the a computer or business club on campus.
That being said, I will miss the news stories of frat pranks gone wrong.
Otis loves us! So, just a SWAG that “Animal House” will soon be verboten?
“Members of the LGBTQ community would describe feeling isolated in their sororities. And invite lists to Greek life parties seemed at times to automatically exclude women who looked like her...”
I am an honorary Zete but never took anything like this too seriously. I was too busy in college to go to parties but I liked the Jews at Alpha Epsilon Pi. Good people and cool traditions.
At the same time I am amazed that millennials are such complete wussy snowflake losers they’ll do anything and abandon any tradition to appear “woke.”
Alas the South lost the war for now.
Freedom of Assembly under Leftist attack.
There is also the freedom to not assemble and the frats which are dissolving are exercising that right.

Zion Bank and Trust? (ZBT)
My fraternity brothers are still some of my closest friends. Fraternities are no longer “homogenized”. They have people of all races, ethnicities, religions and sexual orientation
Interesting. Perhaps the Greek system will turn out to have been a 19th/20th century thing that won’t survive the 21st century. We’ll see. As I mentioned in another thread a day or two ago, the most horrible girls I knew in college 30 years ago were the genus/species of “sorority liberals” (spoiled, bitchy snobs who nonetheless embraced strident leftism).
At its core, leftism purports to be about egalitarianism (i.e., taxing the rich to make them poorer, pretending that gay is equal to straight, demanding equality of outcomes for different races regardless of effort/ability). And yet the Greek system embraces inequality. Sororities self-segregate on the basis of appearance and wealth.
"Greek life" has been fraught with problems for a long time.
I was in a fraternity early 1980’s. Best 5 years of my life looking back. Wish I could go back. Still keep in touch with many of my brothers.
Racial reckoning, my aunt Fanny.. This is all leading to a full-blown Marxist revolution.
Not the issue here.
nothing will ever stop the fraternities....people can relax
Five years?? For an undergrad degree?? I hope you had fun.
Frat houses have been falling for a while. It’s a dead subculture.
And just think of what politicians could so with the money raised by taxing endowment funds? It could keep the illegals in cellphones and drugs for months!
Whatever happened to just being GDI?
