Biden would push for less US reliance on nukes for defense

Democrat Joe Biden leaves little doubt that if elected he would try to scale back President Donald Trump’s buildup in nuclear weapons spending. And although the former vice president has not fully detailed his nuclear priorities, he says he would make the U.S. less reliant on the world’s deadliest weapons.

The two candidates’ views on nuclear weapons policy and strategy carry unusual significance in this election because the United States is at a turning point in deciding the future of its weapons arsenal and because of growing debate about the threat posed by Chinese and Russian nuclear advances. […]

Biden embraces the notion that nuclear weapons should play a smaller role in defense strategy and that the ultimate goal should be a nuclear-free world. He has not spelled out how he would pursue this, but he has dropped clues.

He has said, for example, that he opposes the Trump administration’s decision to develop and deploy two types of missiles armed with less-powerful “low-yield” nuclear warheads. One is a sea-launched cruise missile that is some years from being fielded; the other is a long-range ballistic missile that the Navy began deploying aboard submarines nearly a year ago.

“Bad idea,” Biden said in July 2019. Having these makes the U.S. “more inclined to use them,” he added.

During the campaign, Biden also has embraced what nuclear strategists call a “no first use” policy. …

I think that we are close to the "right" number of nuclear warheads. However, we need to have modernized warheads and new delivery platforms. The old Ohio class SSBNs are of a decades-old design. And as much as I love the B-52, it is a 1950's design; and the current airframes in use were built in the 1960's. [By contrast, the C-130 transport is also a design of the same vintage, but Lockheed Martin has kept upgrading the design and making new airframes.] And then there is the Minuteman ICBM--another design over 40 years old.

He’s an idiot if he believes low yield makes their use more likely. If someone shoots a Davey Crockett from a 106mm recoilless rifle at any nuclear armed enemy, they will not parse the low yield and decide that the line wasn’t crossed by a small bomb and decide they were unjustified in firing nukes back.
This is especially true with the Russians.

Think about it, if the Russians dropped a micro nuke on some American target, would we pretend things were stoff conventional? Biden is an idiot.

The biggest danger of nuclear war comes from the DNC and our globalist neocon generals who are completely convinced they can prosecute a conventional war with Russia and keep it conventional. The enemy gets a vote.

Well, the one good thing about that is, he’ll have absolutely
no input on that decision.

The bad news is, the whole left would love to destroy our
nuclear arsenal from top to bottom. Then China would rule
the world, which is just fine by them.

The Wuhan Flu is a great study on that possibility.

Here we are six months later still fighting to get an
upper hand on the COVID-19 virus. China on the other
hand seems to have eradicated it’s existence inside China.

How did they do that, and do would we like having that
kind of a cure enforced here?

Wonder how the Harris administration feels about that.

I agree about the Mullahs, but downstream from them there are likely many who are not Islamic zealots. If there weren’t, there might have been significantly more destruction in the world already.

They wouldn’t be in charge of the nukes, though. The Mullahs and the IRGC would.

The big nations won’t nuke each other. And little nations get them to make themselves too dangerous to attack. And dictators want them to make sure they don’t get the Saddam and Khaddaffy treatment.

Joe Biden forgot that the best weapon for defense is the one that never gets used. It has done its job by not having to do its job.

Our nuclear arsenal needs to be updated constantly so that it is a credible deterrent to those who wish us harm.

I truly believe that it’s the leftist ultimate plan to eliminate our nukes and feminize our military. That way the Chicoms or any other of Americas enemies can attack us without fear of retaliation.

Mutually assured destruction would certainly work on Iran. Ergo, their side is the only one assured of destruction.

I keep hearing they don’t care if they die because they are suicidal and just need the war to bring in the 12th Imam or something.
Ok, cool, then what’s wrong with today? They could start pounding Tel Aviv with missiles this afternoon. They could missile swarm a US carrier today and probably get success.

They are “suicidal” for OTHER young people to go be suicidal...But for their own corpus delecti? Not so much.

They are as easily deterred by MAD as any people on earth. They want a bomb for one reason. They see Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, etc and then they look at how nobody screws with Pakistan, China, North Korea, or India and they know exactly why.

Underneath the Mullahs BS is an intelligent Persian upper level that is not your idiot Saudi or Arab mentality. Iran isn’t suicidal.
