Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said President Trump should nominate a Supreme Court justice to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the high court next week.
"We have a responsibility to do our job," Cruz told Fox News's Sean Hannity on Friday evening. "We cannot let Election Day come and go and with a 4-4 court ... we risk a constitutional crisis. I believe that the president next week should nominate a successor to the court ... and I think that it is critical that the Senate takes up and confirms that successor."
Cruz added that there would be "enormous pressure from the media" and Democrats to delay filling the vacancies Ginsburg's death has created, but said "this nomination is why Donald Trump was elected and this confirmation is why the voters voted for a Republican majority in the Senate."
The Senator from Texas added that Trump should nominate a "constitutionalist with a proven record."
Cruz, a graduate of Harvard Law School and one of Trump's staunchest allies on Capitol Hill, was on a short list of candidates Trump released last week as potential Supreme Court justices.
Ginsburg, one of the court's more liberal justices, died of pancreatic cancer on Friday at the age of 87.
"She just died? Wow. I didn't know that. You're telling me know for the first time. She led an amazing life. What else can you say?" Trump said when asked by reporters about Ginsburg's death following his campaign rally in Minnesota. "She was an amazing woman. Whether you agreed or not, she was an amazing woman who led an amazing life."
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), opposed former President Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to the court in 2016, said the upper chamber would hold a vote on a potential Trump nominee before the November election.

A four-four court cannot decide vital election cases to determine the upcoming election's potential legal challenges.
There needs to be a tie-breaker justice in SCOTUS.
It would be sweet if they could wrap it up by Friday.
President Trump should announce her replacement TODAY and Linda should announce TODAY that he is holding the VOTE in the Judiciary Committee on Monday.
Just to enrage them even more.
If we play this right with a little planning we can easily win some close Senate elections we might of lost before.

Agreed except pdjt should nominate a really good person today before noon too. Senator McConnell says he will get the vote done, let’s give the nomination to him now.
Remember (as if this is a new thing) that it’s not just the Left that will fight this tooth and nail but especially the DNCMedia.
The good news that shot their wad so many times who is left to be turned by them?
This will enrage the viewers who believe the fake news, but that’s just a matter of degree, seeing how they’re almost always full of outrage.
Conservatives will be pleased and will relish the GOPe in the Senate actually showing a pair (that’s my biggest concern right now).
It is the Independents and the Undecided who the DNCMedia will try to twist everything as “unprecedented”, “Mean-spirited”, “Trump ignores every historical norm” type rants repeated endlessly.
Obama, Biden, Hillary, Rock and Movies stars, race-baiters, ex-military brass Chinese money-lovers, who will rant along with them.

Speaking of Ted Cruz, I’d love to see him as the nominee, but I admit that it’s unlikely.

14 presidents have appointed 21 justices during presidential election years. A half-dozen presidents, classic lame ducks, filled Supreme Court seats even though their successors had been elected.
The left can cry and stomp their feet all they want, but PRESIDENT TRUMP will replace the Buzzy the Baby Killer!

I heard Ted Cruz say this on Fox and was instantly convinced that we had to do this despite all the memorializing and mourning that will be going on. Can you imagine the quagmire of a constitutional crisis that could happen during the election!
Obama has stepped up to offer his legal advice. It just so happens that his legal advice generously requires the Republican conservatives to relinquish their prerogative to name a nominee and give it up to the possibility, he thinks, that the choice will accrue to democrat leftists. What a guy.

This nomination needs to be a female. Preferably a black, Hispanic in a wheelchair who is a vegan and a Catholic with a Jewish boyfriend.
If there is such a woman who is a conservative Trump needs to know her name.
Obviously, I am being a bit hyperbolic, but the idea is to take away the left’s ability to demonize her.
President Trump should immediately nominate someone to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court and the Senate should hold hearings with the Demoncrap Senators trying to obstruct the vote. That obstruction will increase conservative-constitutionalist turn out.
