The president of the American Psychological Association (APA), which represents psychologists in the United States, accused the United States of harboring a racism pandemic, and the president of the Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi) stated, Every institution in America is born from the blood of white supremacist ideology and capitalismand thats the disease, according to the APA.
Those statements were made by APA President Sandra Shullman and ABPsi President Theopia Jackson. Shulman stated:
We are living in a racism pandemic, which is taking a heavy psychological toll on our African American citizens. The health consequences are dire. Racism is associated with a host of psychological consequences, including depression, anxiety and other serious, sometimes debilitating conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder and substance use disorders. Moreover, the stress caused by racism can contribute to the development of cardiovascular and other physical diseases.
The impact of these repeated horrific incidents is inflicting trauma on the broader African American community. Research shows, for example, that compared with whites, blacks feel more negative stereotype threats and more racial profiling when interacting with the police.
Speaking in an interview with Saybrook University president Nathan Long, Jackson said, We need our counterparts to have their own conversation; I mean good-minded white folk like you, Nathan, to have a conversation around the table with other white folks: What is wrong with us? What is our humanity? And its not about activating shame or blame or white guilt; Im not trying to do that at all; we cannot move forward as a nation until everybody does their part, to have their own in-kind conversations. White folks gotta talk to other white folks and get real about what is the dis-ease of white supremacy ideology in your life Most folk in America aint ready for prime-time. Theyre not ready. All those good Christian folks who say, Oh, were post-racial, everythings fine; theyre overreacting, you have played a role in this country going amok cause your silence is just as palpable as their ignorance stepping out there.
APA is addressing the issue on three levels: by broadly communicating psychological science on bias and racism, including through media interviews, blogs and podcasts; by developing actionable recommendations through an APA Presidential Task Force related to racial disparities in policing and police-citizen encounters, particularly related to the Black community; and by working to dismantle institutional racism over the long term, including within APA and the field of psychology, the APA writes.
Shullman concluded, APA has an evolving plan to contribute to the eradication of racism. We dont have all the answers, but were committed to addressing this over the long term. Were creating a plan that puts racism in the context of national and global issues, as well as the ongoing pandemic.

So, Comrade Psychiatrist shall work for free, eh?
I am a clinical counselor and belong to the Texas Counseling Association to keep up on legislative and regulatory issues affecting my practice. As in society at large there are those in the profession with loud mouths and an unwarranted sense of certainty. Unfortunately, many of them gravitate into positions of leadership in our professional organizations. These pronouncements from the APA are examples.
I wish these pathetic people who want to flog themselves would get on with it and leave the rest of us alone. I aint going with you!
“Get woke, go broke” needs a codicil for academic institutions.
For me, the APA lost its influence when it went woke on homosexuality and homosexual rights in the 1970s. This latest screed simply cements the capstone on its tomb.
I had rather deal with racism from others than live in a ghetto of my own kind filled with noise at all hours of the day and night, child abuse, child sexual abuse, families broken up or never formed, domestic abuse, absent fathers, hustling, substance abuse, violent crime.
And if I were a profesional/middle/working class person with a job and an intact family, I would be wondering why my mindset is supposed to be shaped by the preening and the resentments of a dysfunctional ghetto, and why my loyalties should lie with the people there.
/ending my “never walked a mile in their shoes” rant
I really no longer consider psychology a legitimate field of study. The physicist Richard Feynman described the sciences like this, not an exact quote:
At the core is mathematics.
Physics is applied mathematics.
Chemistry is applied physics.
Biology is applied chemistry.
And then there is psychology, practiced by witch doctors.
APA President Shullman is the fuel for Critical Race Theory that This administration put a stop to.

These people are certifiably crazy.
We are seeing the total politicization of a profession that cannot be legitimate to its core mission unless it is apolitical; thus the APA is now an illegitimate association; it now speaks for a political agenda, not truly for “psychology” nor what a “psychologist” must be.
The same goes for many professional organizations. The liberals and radicals take over. I think everyone else is too busy actually doing their jobs.
The problem is the black community cares more about their criminals than about their victims, elderly or children. No other culture in human history has had that problem.
