There was some movement in the effort to pass another coronavirus relief bill in Congress as Donald Trump signaled his willingness to accept a higher dollar amount than the $1 trillion previously offered.
The Democrats in the House are getting antsy and want to see the speaker back at the negotiating table with Republicans. But for the moment, Pelosi is standing firm on her demand that the White House commit to a bill worth at least $2.2 trillion.
CNBC:
President Donald Trump on Wednesday urged Republicans to embrace a larger coronavirus stimulus package as a top White House aide showed more optimism about striking a deal with Democrats.
In a tweet, the president told GOP lawmakers to go for the much higher numbers in legislation designed to boost an economy and health-care system struggling under the weight of the pandemic. Many Republicans have embraced limited relief or backed no new spending at all as the major parties struggle to break a stalemate over a fifth relief bill.
If Trump cracks the whip, GOP senators will fall in line. So right now its up to Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats whether they really want to give relief to the millions who need it, or whether they just want to make Trump and Republicans the villains.
Shortly after Trump tweeted, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told CNBCs Squawk on the Street that he is probably more optimistic about the potential for a deal in the last 72 hours than I have been in the last 72 days. The comment from Meadows, one of the two leading Trump administration negotiators in stimulus talks, followed the Tuesday release of a roughly $1.5 trillion aid proposal by the bipartisan House Problem Solvers Caucus.

Don’t look, Mary Anne! Don’t look!
You want “stimulus?”
End the Shamdemic.
For Trump this is great politics but terrible economics.
Don’t give Dems their pork.
Make them eat their 100% MAGA spinach.
No $1.5 Trillion addition to our National Debt, please.
If it gets him elected... The country is saved.
Roiling the Dems against their leader, ahead of an election which may end up in the House, is smart strategy.
Acknowledged.
Two weeks ago I suggested that Trump propose that each governor be allowed to decide whether the state government or individuals get the new batch of free money.
If the blue states are in such a financial pinch, let them snatch the $1200 free money away from individuals.
This would never pass, of course, but it could help Trump as well as house and senate candidates (if red state guvs unite behind it).
I hate saying this but it feels a little like desperate vote buying attempt. I go back and forth and I keep waiting for Biden to start a real slide. The economy is looking good, the riots, the Middle East deal, Joes constant
mental gaffes yet he still keeps his lead in most of the polls. Yes they are rigged but he is still keeping the lead despite everything. I think Trump will probably win but it is frustrating as hell
Pelosi is the friend of the deficit hawks right now. By insisting on 11% of GDP for the next round of stimulus, she may prevent anything at all from going through.
Of course if the Dems with the election, the floodgates open.
Nancy wants no bill passed. She counting on the media to blame it on Trump.
There are no deficit hawks in the government.
As long as nanzi can say “It doesn’t meet the needs of the American people.” it won’t happen regardless of that actual details. She and her cohorts in crime haven’t missed a direct deposit.
I am not for the second stimulus package. I think we are on our way to recovery already. I do like the fact Nancy is blocking making the Democrat party look bad.
I can’t wait to get more free money!
This isn’t about getting the bill passed. It’s denying Trump any more accolades.
F U N P!
I didn’t mean in the government, just deficit hawks in the wild.
