Now that Al Sharpton has lost interest in Minneapolis — after all, there are no more televised funerals of criminal suspects who died in police custody for him to hijack — the rest of his comrades in the national media have moved on as well. The vultures got what they needed from George Floyd’s corpse and flew away, so now the people of Minneapolis are left to their own devices. Their riot-ravaged neighborhoods and crime-ridden streets don’t fit the preferred narrative, so they’re being ignored.
But the residents still have to live there. They’re still trying to go about their daily lives. The people who can afford to move away from Minneapolis are fleeing in droves, but what about the people who are stuck there? What can they expect from their local leaders, who have spent months trying to #DefundThePolice because it was trending on Twitter?
Minneapolitans can expect what we can always expect from politicians: whining, blame-shifting, and cowardly ass-covering. Brandt Williams, Minnesota Public Radio:

The question these residents need to ask is “Why am I STUCK here?”
Not enough money to move on is the common answer.
Why, Dependency on subsistence welfare because there are no jobs.
Even less now that their “neighbors” destroyed viable businesses while pretending to support their needs.
Who gave them “just enough” to stay on the urban plantation?

Defending isn’t the principal issue here. The persecution of 4 cops for trying to arrest a an unarmed felon (who subsequently expired from a fentanyl overdose) is. If a routine bust for a nonviolent offense can go sideways for the arresting cops like this, it’s unthinkable what they’ll go through when an armed perp ends up riddled with bullets. The current thinking seems to be that if a cop kills a criminal, that’s a black mark on his record to be dredged up in future incidents when the circumstances are unclear. Why put your life and career prospects on the line to resolve a potentially kinetic situation? No encounter with the perps, no problem.

They will avoid all confrontations and just watch...........
Remember Justine Damond? in Minneapolis. Murdered by a Minneapolis cop. No riots. No destruction of the city by roving bands of angry White Australians. No national mourning.
Instead: media blackout. Mayor never took responsibility for hiring the murderer. Mayor blocked prosecution for some time. Murderer got 12.5 years, and will be released after everyone forgets about the incident.
