TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Nearly two-thirds of United States residents under the age of 40 don’t know that 6 million Jewish people were killed in the Holocaust, a new survey found.
In one of the most comprehensive studies of American understanding of the Holocaust, some of the most important details of the genocide were lost among young adults in the United States.
Look up some videos of students on spring break sometime, being questioned on youtube. When asked “What country did the USA win it’s independence from?” a student answers “Germany in the 1940s.” Not making this up.
Those of us, as kids, who saw our first TV way back in the 1950s remember seeing lots of news shows and documentaries about WW II and the Holocaust. Horrifying to a kid, but it was real.
Such shows today would be blocked on many TV stations and web sites as being too “Brutal” to show.
I had an office across the hall from an otherwise educated, sensible fellow.
He honestly thought the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor. Never heard of the Korean War either.
A couple good movies to teach the youth about the holocaust would be Herman Wouk’s The winds of war, and War and remembrance.
He must have got his education from watching National Lampoon’s Animal House.
A lot more than 6 million people died.

My guess is this genocide is 10 times better known than any other genocide in history.
That means they also unaware those Jews were killed by Republicans - so the entire collectivist message is failing to get through in the classroom. :)

Many more lives count. Jews/Holocaust was the topic of the survey.
One thing that we need to keep in mind is that for high school kids, WWII is as far back as the Spanish War was when I was in school.
I think that for adults, The Holocaust is such a part of our lives that it’s assumed everyone “just knows” about it.
Went to a state school I think.

I saw a documentary, about 40 years ago in which it was claimed the Germans wanted to ship all the Jews to Madagascar. Because they were unable to take Egypt and the Suez Canal they now had millions of Jews on their hands and then came up with the idea of mass murder.
Remember, there was once a plan, in the 1800s, to give the Jews Uganda as a homeland.

Probably even fewer folks know that only about half the folks killed in the Holocaust were Jewish.
Wonder how many students know JFK was murdered by a COMMUNIST.
and Bobby Kennedy was murdered by a Palestinian Immigrant.
Forget the conspiracy tales for a moment.
A few years ago, I visited the Statue of Liberty. In front of me in line as we waited for the boat, was a pleasant woman and we began talking. She told me she was a school teacher who taught American History. I asked her about the Korean War since we had discussed she teaches WW2. Her answer to me was “Well, remember I only teach American History.” That was an abbreviated version of the chat.
