Wildfires Will Become Worse Thanks To Decades-Old Liberal Policies, Says Fire Expert Who Predicted Uptick In Blazes
Daily Caller News Foundation ^ | September 13, 2020 | CHRIS WHITE

Bill Clinton’s land management rules and other liberal policies paved the way for future debilitating wildfires

...

Zybach warned of potential disastrous wildfires shortly after Clinton signed a slate of rules in the mid-1990s that drastically reduced logging and road creation on federal lands.

...

Shortly before leaving office in 2001, Clinton limited the ability of the United States Forest Service to thin out a dense thicket of foliage and downed trees on federal land... created a ticking time bomb

...

“If you don’t start managing these forests, then they are going to start burning up. Thirty years later, they are still ignoring it,” said Zybach, who spent more than 20 years as a reforestation contractor. He was referring to warnings he made years ago, telling officials that warding off prescribed burns in Oregon and California creates kindling fuelling fires.

...

Shortly before leaving office, Clinton introduced the Roadless Rule that restricted the use of existing roads and construction of new roads on 49 million acres of National Forest, making it difficult for officials to scan the land for the kind of kindling that fuels massive conflagrations.

...

Ten years before Clinton’s rule, the Fish and Wildlife Service placed the northern spotted owl on the Endangered Species Act, forcing the Forest Service to adopt a new policy that resulted in a greater reduction in timber harvests. The amount of timber removed from federal lands plummeted

...

It’s great for lawyers, but it’s bad for people who breathe air or work in the woods.”

“The prescribed burns are an ancient form of management for keeping the fuels down so these events don’t happen,” Zybach added, referring to Native American Indians who used controlled burns to ward away pests and prevent wildfires ..

Bill Wattenburg (R. I. P. ) warned California nightly about this, many years ago on his radio program.

While California, Oregon and Washington are fighting forest fires, the politicians are blaming it on global warming. This is an effort to deflect blame from their own disastrous forest management.

I’ve seen parts of the forrest in the high Sierras where you literally can’t walk because the trees are so dense. And there are a lot of dead trees from the bark beetle infestation. Those trees should at be dropped to prevent a conflagration.

They have been screaming about Glo-Bull Warming for over thirty five years. Now we are getting cool to cold weather earlier than I’ve ever seen it.

Before that, it was THE COMING ICE AGE!

Before that it was THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT!

True => literally can’t walk because the trees are so dense..

Dangerous to fire fighters, too.

Never letting a crisis go to waste..

Closing rural roads ( ignoring RS 2477 ) is part of their agenda.

A logical approach and therefore unacceptable. You racist, you!

Fires will grow to triple in numbers and acres by the year 2030.

Get ready for it.

Unless a program of aggressive forest management is instituted we can be sure to see this prediction come true.

There is machinery made that can reduce the ground cover in brushy areas, there is machinery that can log the dead timber, up to 70% and over grades, to be used as fuel for electric plants in areas that need that power.

No need to do much controlled burning.

Those of us who live in forested mountain areas saw it coming back then too.

Here in Washington state they have a solution to wildfires. Just burn up everything so there will be nothing to burn left.

Fire is a nature way of cleaning forest. Either people will clean the forest or the nature will. Instead of fighting nefarious global climate change, we need to use that money for RADICAL forest thinning operation!

Bill Wattenburg has passed? When?? What a tragedy!!! I’m a real newshound and I think it’s tragic that someone so learned and intelligent and down to Earth has passed and somehow if there was any mention of it in any news program(show) I missed it and I feel cheated that I was not able to attend some service to express appreciation for his genuine service to this nation through his honest presentations on KGO through all those years. I will truly miss him!!!

Timber harvests in national forests began to tank in 1990 - from an average of almost 10 billion board feet a year (for thirty years) to today’s 2 billion.
You know who was President in 1990? - George W Bush.

The feds as well as the states have been disasters.

https://www.fs.fed.us/forestmanagement/products/cut-sold/index.shtml

The arsonists should be burned at the stake but the size of the losses is due to three things:

1. The (un)holy grail of absolute fire suppression
2. Total lack of proper forest management by all parties
3. Human encroachment into the resulting hazardous overgrowth and deadwood environments.

In other words, “Stupid hurts”.
