Take a look at the “GoodRx” app. I’ve discovered that my blood pressure pills range for $18 to $300 for 90 days from pharmacy to o pharmacy. My insurance provider, good plans wants $77/month and can’t justify this price. Needless to say I get the 90 day $18 option and bypass insurance. The whole pharmaceutical industry is one scan and this proves it.

Does this only apply to everyday drugs or does it also cover orphan drugs? I really don’t know what orphan drugs cost in other countries. I think they do not approve their use as quickly as the US does.

I've done this as well. It's pretty sad when paid insurance through an employer costs more than what is possible. It isn't always the case, but it can really save to shop around.

They never would have been developed unless the drug companies can then charge high prices for them because they aren’t used by a large number of patients. They can be financial blockbusters with the prices charged.

Doesn’t sound like a “fight against Big Pharma” but against global socialist freeriders:

“My Most Favored Nation order will ensure that our Country gets the same low price Big Pharma gives to other countries. The days of global freeriding at America’s expense are over...”

I understand the politics of this, but I hate seeing “big” anything being demonized. Government is behind the increasing costs in health care and drugs.

It’s not the pharmacutical industry, or the pharmacy.... It’s the insurance company and the drug middle men that affect the price.... I discovered years ago that paying cash and using good Rx or something similar can save a ton of cash.... I had a prescription that I had to pay a 30 dollar copay for... Cash with good Rx was 16 bucks...

My son is on an experimental drug that is a thousand dollars a day.

Several years ago my wife and went to a conference in Greece. She had a nasty tooth infection that wouldn't go away and needed antibiotics to fight it. Because something was screwed up with our insurance, I paid out of pocket for the first set: nearly $100. It ran out shortly before we returned, so we got it refilled at a pharmacy in Athens: E8.00.

Americans are simply being robbed blind by the medical industry.

Government regulation is just as heavy in Europe, but their costs are 1/8 to 1/10 ours on average.

Part of the problem is industry consolidation and monopoly pricing, as is also the case in the US for many things from cell service to airlines. Look at the really low prices for short-haul flights in Europe vs. here. It's the same thing-- government connivance at monopoly practices.

When u pay cash for medical costs you learn pretty fast about jacked up prices
Medical care via insurance has a multiplier of 3 to 4

To comply with order and stay in business, the drug companies will have to raise the prices charged to foreigners or refuse to sell to them at the controled prices demanded by their governments.

I hope it works for your son.

I’ve pretty much been on different orphan drugs for the last nine years. I don’t know if the drug for the first year before those was in the orphan category or not. Currently, one weekly pill is $3600 and the other daily pill is $900 and they aren’t experimental. Unfortunately they aren’t working all that well.
