Four have been arrested on suspicion of arson in West Coast areas already under seige from major destructive and deadly blazes, according to reports.
As wildfires continue to rage across three states, police investigated separate incidents near existing wildfires. Two men in Washington state, one man in Oregon and one woman in California are facing charges, according to the Daily Wire.
The latest reports suggest that at least 20 people have died in California, eight in Oregon and one in Washington state as firefighters struggle to contain already deadly fires.
Ashland, Ore., Police Chief Tighe O'Meara announced Thursday that a criminal investigation was opened into the cause of the Almeda fire calling the circumstances around the fire 'suspicious'.
The fire sparked in Ashland Tuesday and although it mostly spared the Oregon Shakespeare Festival town, the blaze has killed two people and destroyed hundreds of homes.
“We have good reason to believe that there was a human element to it,” O’Meara said, according to Reuters. “We’re going to pursue it as a criminal investigation until we have reason to believe that it was otherwise.”
Police accused Michael Jarrod Bakkela, 41, of starting a separate fire near the railroad tracks in Phoenix, Ore., Oregon Public Broadcasting reported. In a statement, the sheriff’s office said that while the Almeda fire burned, “residents witnessed Bakkela lighting a fire behind their house on Quail Lane.”
Deputies and Oregon State Police troopers who arrived at the scene said they saw Bakkela “standing close to a very large fire threatening several homes.”
Bakkela has been charged with two counts of first degree arson, 15 counts of first-degree criminal mischief, and 14 counts of reckless endangering.

One of the guys they caught in Washington had been arrested a year or so ago at a “protest”. He was placing a road flare under a car and had fireworks and weapons in his pack.
Leftist Antifa activists? Those are the people that want to destroy America. Why wouldn’t they want to start fires during our hottest part of the year? They’re doing anything and everything they can to harm Trump’s chances at re-election and ruin the economy. Fires would seem to fit right into their plans.
Well if they get a new DA and the sentence is being punched to death, can I apply to carry it out?

Overlay a map of the Northern Spotted Owl habitat with a map of the currently burning areas in the Northwest. It must be the Spotted Owls lighting the fires. But seriously, why aren’t the greenies crying about the destroyed owl habitat? Why aren’t the greenies out living in the trees and chaining themselves to the trees to stop the fires?
If any element of the fire affects any component of federal property, or federally funded materiel, then DOJ should levy charges. Further, a task force should be initiated to investigate the misfeasance of the Soros district attorneys.
These D.A.’s should “magically” disappear.
The arsonist-activists did the same thing in British Columbia in 2017, with quiet funding from the Tides Foundation and other Soros-allied groups.
They didn’t care how much forest they destroyed, how many innocent animals they killed, how many lives they disrupted, all they cared about was making it look like Global warming was out of control. Just a big PR exercise, everything and everyone else was irrelevant.
And now the eco-terrorists at it again, this time in the US West. All in a selfish effort to put Global Warming back in the headlines, and create a sense of urgency.
What a greedy waste. And these are the same bleeding-hearts that claim to “care about the environment”.
