I’ve been keeping a very close eye on Teddy. One of my cousins lives in Bermuda and the storm is aimed right at it. They just had to deal with Paulette Sat. night into Sunday. :-(
Watching the palm tree at The Beach Club Resort & Spa, it’s taking a licking, but it keeps standing.
I’ve been watching it, too, going back and forth between that cam and one of the storm chasers I watch who’s sitting in Gulf Shores. Guess I’m staying with him since the resort cam went down.
My sister lives in Baldwin County near Summerdale (just north of Foley). The eye of Hurricane Ivan passed right over her house and I suspect Sally will too. Ivan was a Cat 4 and it blew down her chimney and fences and sprang a leak in the master bedroom closet.
Sally is only a Cat 1 but she’s taking her good sweet time making landfall which can be worse than Ivan in the long run because of more rain and flooding. They own about six horses. They’ll be okay if their stall holds up but, if that blows down, that could get pretty nasty.
No idea if they evacuated but I’d bet a lot of people did not because Sally didn’t pack the high winds of a storm like Ivan.
National Hurricane Center 14 minutes ago said TEDDY has reached hurricane status with 90 mph sustained winds
Some at the NHC think Teddy could be a cat 5
The wind just woke me (Fairhope, AL). Checked the house and all good so far. Praying for dawn. I hate nighttime hurricanes.
#Hurricane #Sally Key Messages for 4 AM CDT— Sally is about to make landfall and will cause historic and catastrophic flooding in parts of NW Florida and southern Alabama. More on Sally at http://hurricanes.gov and your local weather forecast is at http://weather.gov
Thanks for the thread NN!
Heard last night that because of how she was going Sally could dump up to 30” of rain whereever she makes landfall?
That could make for some very scary inland flooding.
Continuing prayers for all in harm’s way.

Bump
Watching the weather channel, lot’s of water came in.I hope it moves out fast.
Just checking in.
I have had real good luck with Squash and Cucumbers in the 4ft by 1ft wooden garden boxes Home Depot carries. Found that tomatoes like my ground soil much better than pots. On the other hand, the Jalepenos and Cayennes love the pots -- probably because the soil dries out faster in a pot than box or ground.
One thing I tried this year that worked spectacularly is I put Trellises in the boxes and grew my cucumbers and squash vertically.
Rain and 15-30 MPH winds here in Central Alabama. Family on coast (Foley, Inland from Gulf Shores) said the that storm surge completely crossed the island (Gulf Shores/Orange Beach) and connected with the bay, said their privacy fence is down and losing shingles from roof.
I think I heard the surge emptied a bay west of eye. Can't find confirmation.
And much gratitude for NN once again doing an excellent job to keep us all up to date on another storm....
