Army Corps of Engineers spent the last 14 years tidying up the mess Orleans Levee District made of maintaining the levees.

OLD is closing the gates today.

I just hope they know how to get them open again, if this is a rain event, rather than surge, and the pump operators di-di outta Dodge this time, too.

It’s how ancient Greeks used to say “by Gum!”

Spartans had a different expression, though.

Storm surge into Mobile Bay could be one of the big problems from Sally. New moon is Thursday and with a landfall around Biloxi to Gulfport MS, Mobile Bay is in the zone with highest storm surge risk. Values of 8 to 12 feet are possible.

New Orleans will be affected by tropical storm force northerly winds blowing across Lake Pontchartrain, a test of the levees forthcoming. While that body of water will rise too, the highest storm surge will be considerably further east on Sally’s projected track.

This is no Camille but some wind damage seems inevitable in southern MS.

But I thought Hiden Biden said it was Trump’s fault?

Doing fine so far. Just up from a decent night's sleep.

Breezy and wet, not much wind or rain though.

Good to know you had a restful night. At this pace, you may have another full day before Sally comes ashore.

The effects of a slow pace will be severe flooding far inland. Once the ground is beyond saturation, flash flooding and gusty breezes will bring down large trees inland.

Checking in from Fairhope, on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. Still have power with some wind and rain. Just took the dog for a walk, he’s not a fan of the wind ripping through the trees.

Thanks for checking in with your local update. Tropical storms are very stressful for furry family members. All best thoughts for safety through the storm.
