Fauci says U.S. needs to 'hunker down' for fall and winter

As the United States heads into flu season, Americans can't let up in the fight against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday.

Although the number of new daily cases of coronavirus in the U.S. has slowly been declining, the country is still closing in on 200,000 deaths from COVID-19 and more than 6 million confirmed infections.

“We need to hunker down and get through this fall and winter because it’s not going to be easy,” Fauci said.

Fauci also spoke about the COVID-19 vaccine trials and the possibility of post-Labor Day surges, noting that as one region in the U.S. gets it under control, another hot spot emerges — and that spikes inevitably appear whenever states lift social distancing restrictions.

“It’s really quite frankly depressing to see that because you know what's ahead,” he said.

Fauci’s sobering comments about the need for doctors and scientists to approach COVID-19 with “humility” came a day after President Donald Trump was heard in an audio clip acknowledging in February that he had minimized the seriousness of the pandemic.

“I still like playing it down because I don’t want to create a panic,” Trump said a month later in a call with the journalist Bob Woodward, according to the clip on The Washington Post’s website. Trump has been criticized for his response to the virus.

I’ve been married twice. The first for 20 years and the second going on 23, with no end in sight.

You just described my first wife. My current wife and I are in absolute lockstep on all things religious and political - when we have a fairly strong opinion.

I can’t imagine it any other way. No wait. I can. I used to live it. It was miserable.

My wife bought a mask for when she is in places where she has to wear it. It has a message printed on it: This is not what freedom looks like.

So the masks... don’t work?

Exactly. So the only thing to do now is lie down in the street and wait for the omnipresent virus to kill us all. That's the absurd conclusion to all this nonsense being imposed on us. The destruction of America disguised as a public health measure. These people need to be held accountable and their scam exposed or we're finished.

I saw an article the other day that says that better than 90% of the positive results in their almighty testing are wrong.

Pretty impressive. 1 outa 10.

You have to work for the government to produce results like that.

It does not emerge very often. It is usually little things like leaving the car unlocked for 5 minutes when we run in to grab something from a store. That kind of thing.

But this COVID thing is starting to wear on me.

Congrads on finding someone more sympatico.

Americans can't let up in the fight against the ongoing never-ending, bulls*t coronavirus pandemic.

That’s probably best. My wife and I do have things we disagree on, but those subjects rarely come up and are not really important.

well, Fauci isn’t under the legislative or judicial branch, which, means he answers to SOMONE who answers to Trump, which means Trump can fire his ass.

So I am thinking here is where he is going to say you should not vote in person. I was wondering why he kept saying oh yeah you can vote in person but now he is saying it’s gonna be bad fall and winter so I bet he changes course.
If i did not have symptoms I would not get tested because with each test and there are many false positives it just keeps adding to the total of cases even if you do not get very sick or sick it all. I keep saying ads for free testing get your testing something is not adding up here sorry.

Don’t worry. If Biden wins, the pandemic will be over. Everything will open up by the third week of November

200,000 deaths?

Without context, that number is meaningless.

The CDC classifies 100% of pneumonia + COVID deaths as exclusively COVID deaths.

The CDC classifies less than 10% of pneumonia + influenza deaths as exclusively influenza deaths.

In addition, there is a massive disconnect between COVID testing and influenza testing.

As of today - 85.2 million COVID tests.

In a normal flu season - about 1 million flu tests.

In a severe flu season - about 2 million flu tests.

If we did 85.2 million flu tests each year, flu fatalities would increase dramatically.

Bug off, we will use reasonable precautions and get on with our lives.

No more fear tactics.

At the very least Trump can remove him from the task force and order him to stay away from the media.
