The imam of Mecca’s Grand Mosque appeared to hint at normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia in a sermon delivered on Friday.
Following the Israeli accord with the United Arab Emirates last month, speculation has been rampant on whether Saudi Arabia would follow suit.
The New Arab, a London-based, Qatari-funded private media outlet, reported over the weekend that Abdul Rahman al-Sudais used his sermon to emphasize tolerance and cooperation between Muslims and non-Muslims.
In particular, he cited instances in which the prophet Muhammad had friendly relationships with Jews.
“The prophet had mortgaged his shield to a Jew when he died; he had shared harvest from the land of the Jews of Khaybar,” he said. “The excellence he showed to his Jewish neighbor led the latter to Islam.”
Mohammed al-Sagheer, an Egyptian Islamic scholar, strongly condemned al-Sudais’ sermon, saying, “He is paving the way for normalization and treason from the holy Meccan pulpit.”
Some other users on social media also reacted angrily to the sermon, saying that it would lead to further normalization between Israel and Muslim countries.

As a general rule, I prefer peace to war. I think it is better for the human race, and overall geopolitical climate, if the Israelis and Saudis can get along - and do so publicly, instead of the clandestine cooperation that has occurred from time to time in the past.

Objectively, I have been anticipating Saudi recognition, but emotionally, I am really flabbergasted.

The Saudi Imam lied:

That is totally Muslim revisionist history. The Jewish community of Khaybar was not peacefully led to Islam. It was attacked by Islam’s Army for not being Muslim. It’s inhabitants were killed, exiled and a few allowed to stay if subservient to the demands of Islam.
If he wants to normalize, fine. Just don’t expect Israel to foolishly let her guard down.

It is significant that this revised history is now the official Party line, in strictly controlled Saudi Arabia.
No way the Imam of the Grand Mosque decided to just throw this out on his own.
Saudis are used to turning on a dime when the Party line shifts.

For years the general consensus for the end times was that the antichrist and beast would come out of Europe and the nations involved in the symbolism was the European Union. But there have been others who said that the Bible is centered on the middle east and all of this would take place there. They may be correct.

The Jews were slaughtered - mostly beheaded. History repeats, but hopefully the present day Jews are wise to this lie and are not suckered to slaughter again.

The official interpretation is ultimately based on the whims, or strategy, of the currently reigning despot. In different places and times (sometimes for centuries) Jews have been accepted within Islamically ruled countries (such as the Ottoman Empire). There is a lot of historical precedent for such an interpretation.
It seems clear that the Saudis have shifted the Party line to the new truth already. The most outspoken hardline preachers of the old Party line are in jail facing potential death penalties, and the Imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca recently took the pulpit for Friday prayers, and listed instances of Muhammad getting along with Jews.
Saudi citizens who want to keep their heads attached, are accustomed to keeping a finger in the wind, to stay on the right side of whatever the official position is.
The whole Saudi-funded International missionary infrastructure will turn to any new Party line, in short order.
