Trump didn’t help his cause when he further surrounded himself with “his generals” who were secretly allied against him.

Remember when Javanka brought in their pal Gary Cohn? Now Kushner is leaking where he was supposedly anti-Cohn.

Trump needs to reopen the top brass dismissals of the Obama years. There was much secrecy surrounding them.

My Navy career was half over when Carter took office. The earlier Zumwalt "reforms" addressed some pressing issues; and I thought, then, we were headed fair in the channel. But the politically driven emphasis on social over readiness and morale issues that began to intensify in '78 made it difficult to get past twenty.

I have mixed feelings about the situation at present. I know that the left has shamefully weakened the military, but I also know the lesson of history. The public, unfortunately, will not back a strong reaction to aggression nor back strong military leadership, until the fear is palpable. Not even 911 was enough to set things aright.

It began to be clear last October that the Obama administration ... had seeded the Pentagon with leftist generals whose allegiance was to the Deep State, to cultural leftism, and to the infamous and profitable “military industrial complex”

It's worse than what we think...much worse.

in times of peace the top brass are useless sycophants, Lincon learned this the hard way, when it took a long time to find a general that would actually fight the civil war.

When I read the U.S. Constitution it’s clear to me that this country was simply not designed to have a large, permanent standing army. The navy was the only military function that was expected to operate routinely during peacetime.

The “army” was supposed to be comprised of the state militias, not a permanent bureaucracy of @ssholes operating in a giant five-sided building across the river from the nation’s Capitol.

Ah, you again Alberta -

Sorry: we have “the wolf by the ears” - any weakening of our trained, well-exercised, and modern defense forces guarantees a new foreign ownership of the land we stand on.

The days of “all we need are local militias” evaporated around 1898 or so.

I was in the Army 1973-76, even then officers and NCO’s shook in the boots att he prospect of being called “racist”. Blacks were allowed to get away with stuff that would get a white GI booted out with an Undesirable Discharge, or at the very least get an Article 15 or Field Grade Article 15. Those who did get booted almost always got a General Under Honorable.

Now, consider the fact that EVERYONE in the military today has gone through 12 years of public school where they are taught that the country is a terrible place, “racist, sexist, homophobic, and xenophobic” that has to be “fundamentally changed”. All the officers went through college where that message was hammered home even more forcefully. To get ahead they had to prove themselves to be totally indoctrinated.

No that isn’t going to happen

Look at the so called military leaders. They are DC swamp rats. The troops won’t respond to them

Trump knows that he has to keep his friends close, and his enemies closer. It’s as simple as that.

There with you, same feeling. He’s saying everyday “fake news” Hoax news and yet he bares his soul, allows it to be recorded, to Bob Woodward in AN ELECTION YEAR and COVID.

Kelly Conway told him not to do the interview and instead he listens to Graham and Jared. Just so stupid. I love the President but he does make his own problems in the media.

“If Trump wins, which I believe he will handily, he should then purge the top ranks of the military and get rid of any Dem loving, Obama appointed (and/or leftover Clinton supporters) top brass ASAP before they can do any further damage to the Trump Admin and to the morale of our troops. “

Agreed, but his laziness/inattention in dealing with all of Bammy’s holdovers in the Executive Branch, a non-action that crippled his Administration, leaves me less than optimistic that he will remove the hundreds of treasonous military officers who should be fired.

I mostly agree with your assessment here, but with one caveat. Having worked too many years at a public University in IL before I retired to FL, I know public bureaucracies from the inside out.

So many of these Swamp people, both Admin and Military, are Civil Service employees, and you almost have to be an ax murderer to get rid of them. I know this firsthand as I was in on the hiring process in the Dept. that I worked in at UIC (Univ. of IL at Chicago). Many of the federal gov’t employees, even way up in the ranks (my now deceased relative and Godfather who worked as an American Consul in the Fed State Dept. and was stationed at Embassies all over the world, his specialty being economics and trade deals, was one. As an aside, he was a total State Dept. Lib). Even with his high position, he still had a Civil Service ranking.

You can be higher in Military command and still be under the umbrella of Civil Service. Trump getting rid of a lot of these higher up civil service employees (like Peter Strozk in the FBI) is like pulling teeth. During a second term, Trump will have more time and perhaps less resistance in getting rid of some of these folks, hopefully.

Washington D.C. being chock full of minorities who are working in the various Dept’s of Gov’t, are mostly Dems, as D.C. is the primarily labor pool, and our gov’t offices are chock full of Obama types, deeply entrenched in their job positions. Good luck to Trump and his Dept Heads on getting rid of at least some of them.

I agree also that he has made some poor choices in appointees for his immediate inner circle. Getting bad advice from some of his advisors (probably the likes of Kushner and Ivanka) or other advisors with too much of a liberal bent for my tastes. Trump usually catches on and gets rid of the bad eggs, like Kelly and Mattis in the military etc., but he needs to have someone better researching the appointees, and the researchers have to be true Conservatives advising him on these appt’s. He can’t be listening to the more moderate amongst his advisors because those appointments never seem to work out.

What a huge job though for Prez Trump who is battling on so many fronts and being continually thwarted by the Deep State that is so hard to get rid of, maybe impossible in some instances. Christopher Wray is the next one that has to be gotten rid of by Trump, after he gets re-elected.
