I only know because I’m a Martini Girl (Top Shelf, Straight Up, Dirty, w/Olives and Icy-Cold) and any other ‘-tini’ is an affront to Man and Nature! ;)

...when the wealthy are abandoning ship, you know what’s coming is bad.

Yeah, all their favorite bistros and boutiques are trashed and burned. The view from their penthouse deck is horrid. Winters in their summer homes are cold.

“It’s just too much to bear. Let’s go to Belize for the winter. None of those unemployed deplorables will be able to afford it this year, so it’ll be perfect.”

These folks have no idea what’s coming and they won’t know ‘bad’ until it actually affects their comfort bubble.

Maybe when they realize they fouled the nest to the point where they can’t come home again? Naw. Bad for them will be when the US$ is worthless and they can’t pay the Caribbean tab.

They seem to think that should TSHTF they will be safe in the Caribbean.

Problem is, I’ll bet the natives are only nice to them as long as the money is forthcoming. They will regret it soon enough when the class envy kicks in.

Do they really think the locals won’t do the same that BLM and antifa are doing here?

...Lay siege to it and they will starve.

Every tourist paradise is close enough to some sort of hellhole that there are a lot of thugs roaming around. You just don’t see them in the gated resorts, but security is mostly just for show and the resort crime is covered up.

_Everything_ comes in by plane or ferry or cargo ship. A half mile from the coast, the weather is hot and humid and the people live rough.

Not everyone works in the tourist trade, either. Tourists see the creme de la creme of the locals and more than a few of those are expats.

We had friends down there, when we were younger and still traveled. Lovely people, but in the summers, they went to Canada or Scotland or other cool climes.

Thank goodness Hillary restored Haiti to the tropical paradise it now is.

Makes sense.

The week heading into the election will most likely be a complete circus. I’d say ‘if the Dems can make it so’, but they clearly can.

True. Salaries at the resorts are low. The workers depend on tips and are willing to become friendly with tourists, and especially regulars, for those tips.

Anyone who has spent more than a week on one of the islands, especially if they aren’t necessarily at a top resort, has had to shop locally. It’s been 22 years since I was there and not only were prices lower then, I had more money, too.

My ingrained frugality helped a lot. Food is very expensive if you expect a Western diet. You need a local support network to navigate the bureaucracy. Some places, potable water is expensive and 1st world medical services are non-existent (it varies).

In the 70s, I asked a French expat in Papeete what it would cost to live an American lifestyle there. He answered: “US$10k/month.”

Living like a local is cheaper, but it will wear quickly on anyone over 20. Back in the late 90s, the 30-something daughter of a friend went to Jamaica on the cheap. She took a room in the local area and lived as cheaply as possible. She came home early and said it was quite hard, not to mention frightening.

One thing I never see mentioned: there are militants in Venz and in T&T. Many have Islamic ties and they do not approve of tourist dress or behavior. They were evident in 1998. I doubt they have disappeared.

Two types of people heading to the islands:

1) People who fear something bad will happen

2) People who KNOW something bad will happen because they are funding it
