The Inevitable Implosion of Biden’s Campaign
The American Spectator ^ | 9-4-2020 | David Catron

Posted on 09/05/2020 7:14:28 AM PDT by Sir Napsalot

It is doomed by a strategy based on a progressive myth about Trump’s base.

It’s tempting to attribute Joe Biden’s plummeting poll numbers in key battleground states to his dilatory denunciation of the riots that still ravage their Democrat-run cities. However, the campaign’s fatal flaw is more subtle than Biden’s tacit approval of mob violence. It is rooted in the classism that resulted in his nomination to be the Democratic standard bearer. Among the progressives who control the party it’s an article of faith that President Trump’s base consists of undereducated working-class whites. Thus, they reluctantly supported Biden’s nomination in the hope that “working class Joe” could peel off enough of Trump’s benighted blue collar support to capture the White House.

The problem with this strategy is that it is based on a myth. White voters without college degrees do indeed constitute an important part of Trump’s coalition. But the belief that these Americans are working class clods dumb enough to support a Potemkin candidate nominated by a radicalized party is a progressive fantasy.

(omitting Biden's dwindling poll numbers)

The source of this downward spiral in Biden’s numbers is the progressive myth that all voters without college degrees are by definition working class and not very bright. Ironically, this nonsense was debunked as early as 2017. Nicholas Carnes of Duke University noticed that the “working class voter” narrative had become a staple of media commentary concerning Trump’s 2016 victory over Clinton and responded with a Washington Post column titled, “It’s time to bust the myth: Most Trump voters were not working class.” Carnes was ill-mannered enough to point out that journalists writing about Trump’s blue collar base had failed to produce any data supporting what had by then become conventional wisdom...

Burning and looting ads will win the election...but they may still steal it...

Trump has to win by 100,00 or more to win the swing states

Exactly so. We do not live in a bubble, we deal with reality every day.

My son just graduated (BS in Business/Accounting) from a fairly leftist CA public college (they are all pretty leftist in CA), and told me that he took a lot of philosophy courses (minored in it) because that’s the one liberal arts field that hasn’t yet been ruined by the left.

They still read and study Plato, Aristotle, etc.

I can’t believe early voting begins in the United States these days before even the first debate. Disappointing.

Yes—the deplorables comment was so politically tone deaf—why write off and criticize any potential supporters, especially half the nation? I don’t see Trump writing off any potential voters except for the “anarchists and looters.”

The deceivers are in a bubble of their own making thanks to journalism, academia, and largely residing in deep blue urban centers. The left does not understand the majority of America or Americans. They ascribe positions on us that match their own narrative - not ours. This is why they have made so many tactical mistakes in the era of Trump. They believed resistance and obstruction would cause people to support them. They believed riots and fanning the flames of racial tension would help them. They believed (and still do) that shut-downs and draconian mandates for the Chinavirus will help them. They believed chaos and misery would cause Americans to elect Biden. They chose poorly because they do not understand the nation they seek to control.

Yes, thus the self deception of the deceivers (2 Timothy 3:13).

The deceivers are themselves deceived.

You're right on that. It won't be long before "Slow Joe Hiden" is at a complete standstill.

A senile Biden is the risky/dangerous choice. Then, add my tagline:

Because, obviously she could win without those voters.

Every outlet, and everybody who is anybody said she’d be cruising to her coronation.

Liberals live to snot, to compensate their own inferiority complex.

I used to have a quote on my bulletin board:

“The society which scorns excellence in plumbing as a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy: neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water.”

Excellence: Can We Be Equal and Excellent Too? (1961). John W. Gardner

“The #WalkAway Campaign is a true grassroots movement, founded by former liberal, Brandon Straka on May 26th, 2018.

The #WalkAway Campaign encourages and supports those on the Left to walk away from the divisive tenets endorsed and mandated by the Democratic Party of today. We are
walking away from the lies, the false narratives, the fake news, the race-baiting, the victim narrative, the violence, the vandalism, the vitriol.

We are walking away from a party driven by hate. We are walking toward patriotism and a new, unified America! We are the future of this great nation!

I was a computer buff early on. In the 60s in grade school my 5th grade teacher gave me a science fair type kit that meant to teach digital electronics before electronic calculators were common. Of course when “home computers” became available I was entranced by them.

So in college I eventually ended up working as a “computer lab” asssistant helping other students with their homework and maintaining the IBM PC and XT type computers that were in the “lab”. One of the students that I assisted said he was a “plumber” who wanted to become a computer programmer because he was sure that was the future. The poor guy had a lot of difficulty and left me with the impression that plumbing must not be much of an intellectual challenge or difficult craft to learn.

After doing quite a bit of plumbing renovating an old house I am now pretty sure that he was a plumbers assistant or someone who unclogged drains, did minor repairs and maybe soldered tubing or cut and threaded pipes and not a full fledged plumber. The ammount of thought that goes into designing a multistory drainage and venting system that complies with code can be fairly complicated.

Socrates remains as one of the greatest teachers of all time. His dialogs are stellar examples of critical thinking and should be taught even in high school.
