Officials from the US, EU, Japan and Taiwan have actually required co-operation in reconstructing worldwide supply chains after the US-China trade war and the coronavirus pandemic exposed the threats of relying on China.

Speaking at a conference in Taipei on Friday, Brent Christensen, director of the American Institute in Taiwan– the US’s quasi embassy– advised democracies with shared worths to develop more protected supply chains together in other places.

“This is going to require a co-ordinated effort from all of us,” he stated.

Mr Christensen included that the concern of reorganising supply chains was “on top of the list” for a brand-new financial discussion the US was starting withTaiwan The Taiwanese business that constructed the worldwide production base for innovation hardware in the People’s Republic of China in the previous thirty years had “increasingly recognised the danger of tying their future to the PRC,” he firmly insisted.

All of our “supply chains” need to be in the USA. All of them.

If President Trump really wanted to stir the pot he could let it be known he's considering moving the US Embassy back to Taipei and will consider it to be the legitimate seat of government for China.

I found myself at Walmart last week in search of a replacement plastic cutting board and a Twin-sized blanket to use in the family room. My first thought was "only China crap options". Instead, the cutting board, under Walmart's Mainstays brand of all things, was made in the USA, and the blanket was made in India.

Either I hadn't noticed this before, or we're slowly moving to alternative sources for everyday items. I thought the cutting board was a few dollars more expensive that I remember seeing it last year. It might be a supply issue, but if that's the price to pay to get something not made in China, find by me.

So does this mean we will actually defend Taiwan from China after all?

China was already hurting as quite a few businesses were leaving China due to high labour costs. What China has done to so many other countries has turned it into a pariah. Even Russia has cancelled some defense deals.

Go Taiwan, go!

Remember earlier this year TSMC, the Taiwanese chip giant is siting a state of the art semiconductor fab in Phoenix area.

For large custom chips the big three are Samsung, TSMC, and Intel. I think Apple uses TSMC. It is in pre-construction planning stage right now.

Between that and the border wall success McSally should be leading in the Senate race. Trump is going to have to drag her across the finish line it seems.
