Skernivitz had been sworn in as a member of the Violent Crime Task Force to work as part of Operation Legend this past Wednesday. The federal operation has aimed to crack down on violent crime in several major U.S. cities.
The chief described the shooting victim as an excellent member of the force.
The shooting unfolded in the west side of the city around 10 p.m., police union president Jeff Follmer told Fox 8.
The police officer had been riding in a patrol car that was fired upon several times, with the car crashing, sources told the station.
The officer died of his wounds after being transported to a hospital.

"The police officer had been riding in a patrol car that was fired upon several times, with the car crashing, sources told the station."
Apparently they were just driving around, and were not involved in a stop or an arrest. This sounds like an assassination.
Is it likely that this was triggered by the rabid anti-police rhetoric that has been flying around lately? If the tables were turned, the left would definitely blame it on conservative rhetoric and a conservative "climate of hate."

Cleveland is a hole. Right up there in my top 10 of all time worst places I have had the displeasure of traveling to. My ranking from worst is Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Jersey City, Cleveland, Richmond, Philly, NYC, Oakland.

For some reason this puts in mind Omar Bradley complaining that he was “sick and tired of hearing about German snipers surrendering.”

This is a gentrified area on the Westside. I have millennial clients that live in the area. Refurbished old homes and luxury apartments amidst the decay. I have to be down there next week.

I used to live in the area, Parma to be exact. That part of Cleveland was, in the past, very much a white neighborhood. Run down, but the races didnt mix too well until maybe the late 80s and 90s. Havent been there in years.
Used to buy beer at a little corner store at 41st and Storer, prior to being of age for regular beer. Ohio, at the time, had 3.2% beer for people 18 years old.
Im kind of following this because I know a couple of CLE cops.

Apparently they were just driving around, and were not involved in a stop or an arrest. This sounds like an assassination. And there's more of this to come.
I have NO doubt.

Yep, those could easily be in the top 10, especially Newark and Memphis. I actually thought of each of them.
