Vice President Pence said Tuesday that he doesnt recall being told to be on standby when President Trump made an unannounced visit to Walter Reed Medical Center last year.
I dont recall being told to be on standby, Pence told Fox Newss Bret Baier when pressed on an account included in a new book from New York Times correspondent Michael Schmidt. I was informed that the president had a doctors appointment.
Ive got to tell you, part of this job is youre always on standby. Youre vice president of the United States, Pence continued. The American people can be confident that this president is in remarkably good health, and every single day I see that energy in high relief.
According to Schmidts book, Pence was told to be on standby to assume the powers of the president last November in the event Trump had to be anesthetized during the visit to Walter Reed, which had not been on Trumps schedule and prompted widespread speculation about the president's health.
Pence said Tuesday that he is always informed of Trumps movements and insisted there was nothing out of the ordinary about that moment or that day. He referred other questions to the White House physician.
Trump sought to refute the report earlier Tuesday, denying in a tweet that he made an emergency visit to Walter Reed after suffering a series of mini-strokes.
Never happened to THIS candidate - FAKE NEWS. Perhaps they are referring to another candidate from another Party! Trump tweeted.

As suspected. Fake news.
I dont recall seemed unnecessarily flaccid.
It is prudent to answer that way in case there is a recording of a conversation in which the word standby was used.
By saying he doesnt recall, he is not only making his statement unimpeachable (nobody can prove or disprove what he recalls), but he is also conveying that there was no emergency - there was nothing memorable about the appointment.
I think he answered correctly.
You better tell Joe, cause that's the way he rolls every day.
Ha. So right you are.
Never been a fan of pence and this is why
My adult son had some minor surgery last year. I went with my wife so we could drive him home. That is about all I remember. Whether she asked me to go, or I offered, or my son asked - I have no idea.

If you asked my wife - she would know in detail the events of that week, including what type of sandwich I got her from the hospital deli. (I’m almost positive I went to the deli!)
Or things that happen routinely. I think its pretty standard for the VP to be put on standby, that is, be immediately available, when the President travels, goes into a medical setting, or a host of other situations.
Yep. Illustrative of why Mike will never be president. A good guy, but without the required fire in his belly to go mano a mano with the left.
Senators make for crappy Presidents and VPs. Governors, yes. Congressmen, sometimes. The latter may still a little scrappy if they haven’t served too many terms. But Senators? Nah, you can keep ‘em.
There isn’t a reporter alive who has Trump’s energy.
Every really successful person I have even known has NEVER been a “9-5” person.
This is why I don’t trust Pence farther than I can throw him. He should have unequivocally said he was not put on stand by.
The LIES about @realDonaldTrump’s health are DISGUSTING.
