Senate Bill 1383 by state Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) would provide millions of employees who work for smaller businesses with the same 12 weeks of job protections while taking family leave as those who work for larger companies. The bill now heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has said he will sign it.
Californias paid family leave program allows workers to take time off to bond with a new child or care for a sick family member while receiving 60% to 70% of their weekly salary for eight weeks.

Out of control government is out of control.
If you have a small business with a handful of employees you quite literally can not afford for one of them to take twelve weeks off. It will bankrupt you as surely as a COVID lockdown will.
These citizens are having the noose put around their very own necks and they applaud their demise? Tyrannical government on the loose.
How to further hurt small businesses already hurt by the lock downs. Unless the Dims plan to push the costs off on the taxpayers.
CA asking the rest of us to pay for their sewer level management in three, two one.....
If California does this those millions will not have jobs to return to.
Millions of clueless fools will blame their “evil” bosses for laying them off. They will vote again for demonRATs.
Another unfunded mandate forcing businesses to leave the state.
Can you collect 70% of your pay scale for not working 8 weeks as an actor/actress in a movie (which may only have a 6 week shooting schedule)?

This is a de facto state takeover of all businesses just like Communist China. Every state legislator signing off on this needs to be charged, starting with fraudulent use of taxpayer's money.
Am I missing something?
The paid leave was paid for by an insurance fund before this bill.
What in the new bill stops the employer from laying off the employee AFTER the 12 weeks that they take off?
Hey, I’d like some of that family leave assistance. Maybe the state can provide some funds to help me and my family leave California?
Terrible. Just when I think that CA couldn’t possibly be more anti-business, they surprise me.
OVER 65% of the employees in Calif are working for ‘small businesses’. Per Calif data.
There goes the job market for young, straight women.

There are damn few small businesses that can afford this kind of expense.
When I was a kid on the farm in Wisconsin, the next door neighbor was out on the tractor—doing what she usually did in springtime— she started having labor pains. They took her off that tractor at about 11:30 AM.
It was a 45 min drive to hospital.
She was back on tractor the next morning & oldest child of 5 was taking care of new baby.
I am NOT kidding

Can you speak Spanish? If so, you can have the money.
