(CNN) — The multi-billion-dollar effort to get a marketable coronavirus vaccine could see delays because researchers haven’t recruited enough minorities to join the clinical trials.
Of the 350,000 people who’ve registered online for a coronavirus clinical trial, 10% are Black or Latino, according to Dr. Jim Kublin, executive director of operations for the COVID-19 Prevention Network.
That’s not nearly enough, as study subjects in trials are supposed to reflect the population that’s affected. Research shows that more than half of US coronavirus cases have been among Black and Latino people.
Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, gave the Moderna trial, the first in Phase 3 in the United States, a “C” grade for recruiting minorities.
“From the first week I saw the numbers, and they were not as encouraging as I would have liked,” Collins told CNN.
The stakes are high. Operation Warp Speed, the government’s effort to develop a coronavirus vaccine, says it aims to deliver 300 million doses by January — a speed unheard of in the history of vaccine clinical trials.

But there are legitimate concerns grounded in history that minorities have on this topic. Throw in the concerns around the speed of the trials and the conservatives' skepticism around the governmental intent behind the lockdowns etc., the vaccine issue could unite these usually separated groups.
If so, this will become a massive Dem problem.
In that case, just offer the vaccine to whites and Asians.
In my city many of the testing centers are in minority neighborhoods, you get the results of where you test.
Still was not discussed as how many are symptomatic or require hospitalization.
I have a friend—white male in his 60s—who is volunteering to be in a covid vaccine trial. He’s a retired scientist who used to work for a drug company and is really interested in the science behind it all. I’m grateful to him!
As I just said in another thread on this - if they’re gonna give you a placebo, then taking a pass is the only smart thing to do.
I should be surprised they haven’t gotten around to testing anything on people yet, but with the Orwellian name of “Warp Speed” it’s par for the course.
If one race opts-in disproportionately, so be it.

Who is this “we black people”? Black “leaders” don’t speak for black people.
Different ethnic groups might react differently to the virus and the vaccines so the sampling of the trial participants should mirror the demographic and ethnic mix of our society. Of course if they can’t do that then so be it..
The trial should not be slowed down because of racial issues. Death is more important than dubious social justice woke nonsense.

It’s amazing that the drug companies have gotten this far with testing a vaccine given that America’s national motto has devolved from “In God We Trust” to “We’re Afraid” in just a few months.

This doesn’t work with my plan. Due to my white privilege I was going to wait until all minorities received the vaccine before squandering it for myself.
It was not hard to see this coming as we have flattened the curve and still in Covid prison.

That's technically not correct.
The CDC data show (what we've all known for some time) that the vast majority (94% to be precise) of people who have COVID19 as cause of death on their death certificate, had other comorbidities. Or, clinically, "For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death."
This is not uncommon - the following is a list of comorbidities with heart failure: coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, atrial fibrillation, stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA), valvular heart disease, myocardial infarction, body mass index, diabetes mellitus, serum creatinine, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep apnea, depression, anemia, and thyroid disease.
I'm not doubting the politicization of this pandemic or data chicanery or any of that. But this non-admission admission that sick people are more likely to die than healthy people is being blown out of proportion, and the GP article that announced this non-story is not only poorly-written but makes our side look like idiots.
False, half of all Americans and two thirds above the age of 40 have those morbidities. Nice try to strawman though. Otherwise healty people in their 40s n 50s with hypertension controlled by medications don’t just drop over dead. They have been killed in large numbers by the China bioweapon. I personally know 2 people in their 40s who died one was a active boxer lean and mean his “underlying” condition was high blood pressure that he took medication for. He wouldn’t ne dead right now if the China virus had not killed him to say otherwise is an outright lie.
Simple solution to the pandemic,,,,Make HCQ and Azithromycin OTC drugs so anyone who develops a cough and/or fever can go the nearest drug store and self medicate with the drugs along with Zinc Sulfate with correct dosage within 48 hours of symptoms and pandemic over.,,,,,instead of waiting a few days to get tested and 5 days for the results,,,,if over 60 years of age,,,,you’re dead.
Does anyone remember thalidomine? No! To this drug.
